Virgin Airlines Review Summary

Wondering what our members think about Virgin America Airlines? They loved it. Family travelers liked Virgin because of the video games, on demand entertainment and gift packs that come standard in every class. Our reviewers also report that Virgin Airline flights are a "pleasant" experience with extremely friendly stewardesses. However, members weren’t as happy with Virgin customer service on the phone. Some said “I’m not impressed”. Members also commented that you have to pay extra for more leg room—bummer! Overall, Virgin American Airlines got great reviews and is considered one of the best airlines by Viewpoints reviewers. Read what others say are the best airlines and worst airlines.

To the Point

We went to and from London on two beautiful planes - air busses - brought to us by Virgin Air. It was our first experience with this airline and I was quite impressed. The planes each way were slightly different but the configuration (2 seats - 4 seats - 2 seats) and the service were the...

Dear Customer,

I felt compelled to write this letter after the thirtieth birthday trip my partner and I planned was foiled by the apathetic attitudes we experienced when dealing with Virgin America Airlines. Initially we booked this flight because we were told this smaller trendy airline...

I just got back from Los Angeles, no thanks to Virgin America.  They got me there just fine but getting back was a hellish experience that could have and should have been easily averted by people in customer service actually doing customer service.

I am a very budget-conscious traveler.  Our family income is moderate and travel expenses are kept to a minimum in our family.  When I learned that I needed to make a trip to L.A., I asked around and found out about the low fare ($129) from Boston to Los Angeles.  This looked great so I booked two round-trip tickets for my husband and me.

We finished...

I have flown Virgin a few times, since my husband is British and his entire family is "across the pond".

I've been impressed by their service, the quality of their food, the on-demand entertainment in front of each seat (even in coach) and yes, the little travel gift pack left on your seat.

We have not yet purchased a ticket for our over 2-year-old, but when my sister-in-law last visited in late 2005, her then 4-year-old got a great little backpack with treats inside as a part of purchasing his ticket.  I wonder if they still do that.

Overall flying Virgin has been a great experience.  As we now...

IAD-LAX-IAD First Class. Service the first leg of the trip was excellent, best service ever, and the dinner was amazing. Downside: massage/lumbar on my chair was broken, buttons did nothing. My red entertainment system crashed twice (reboot takes about 5 minutes each time). Fast Forward and Rewind did not work on my wife's Red. The snack selection is pretty bad, standard airline fare - pretzels, nuts, etc. The good snacks (cookies and other baked goods) are not available in First. Service the second leg of of the trip was TERRIBLE - worst service EVER in over a hundred First Class flights...

We flew from SFO to LAX with Virgin America and we were quite impressed by the ameneties and comfortable flights. The flight took off on time as well.
They made their best impression when we forgot our flight's departure time and got to the airport barely 15 mins before the take-off. The front desk staff helped us by informing their team on the gate about our arrival and while we literally ran through the security and sprinted our way to the boarding gates, the virgin america staff made sure that we could board it.
We paid the lowest fare in the US for those tickets and had received the best service...

I travel all the time - for work and for pleasure, with my family and alone. I have tried every airline I can find. I am a member of all sorts of frequent flying programs. Virgin comes out head and shoulders above the rest. The seats are relatively comfortable. The air staff is couteous and efficient. The frequent flyer perks are worth it. The online entertainment is sufficient. I have travelled with them at least ten times and they have never been late or delayed or cancelled. The tickets are affordable without being cheap. Really cheap tickets usually indicate really cheap airlines - equipment... read full review »

In certain respects, I really like Virgin. They are not the most posh, but they keep their travelers entertained, which is nice. So, Virgin America added to Virgin Atlantic would seem to be good.

However, on three separate occasions, I planned a trip and flew on Virgin Atlantic because of bonus points offered on the frequent flyer program. I did not receive the points offered on ANY of those flights! Once, they magnanimously awarded me 2,000 points - in place of the 10,000 offered.

They stink! I don't like dishonest promotions.

In March, we found this great deal from San Francisco to Las Vegas on Virgin Airlines. I can't remember exactly how much...I want to say $39 one way- it was unbelievably cheap so I couldn't resist.   I've never been to "Sin City" so I thought this was an awesome  trip with 3 of my girlfriends.  After booking the tickets online, which was a breeze, we looked forward to trying this airline since we had some good reviews from other buddies.   When we got to the gate, the ticketing agent was so personable and down-to-earth. This is one of the few times, we didn't feel rushed like cattle. ...

I've flown virgin america about a dozen times in the last year with no problems.

In april, I booked a flight to Seattle for a wedding in July.  For whatever reason, I never received a confirmation email of this flight.  Two months later, thinking I hadn't yet booked a flight for this wedding (I searched my email for a flight I'd boked, nothing found) I booked another flight.

After booking the 2nd flight, I sent my itinerary to my sister.  A few days later, she read it and said "I thought you told me in april that you'd booked a flight already', so I logged into my VA account, and sure enough,...

This past summer I was introducted to Virgin airlines for the first time. I was headed home from Kenya which in a nerve wracking two full days of traveling. My Virgin airlines flight was my last flight from Londaon to Dulles. I was already in a bad mood and just wanted to get to my seat and fall asleep. However, when I got on the plane the attendant promply and politely directed me to my seat, stowed my bags for me, and started explaining the various features of the flight. Well needless to say, I was blown away. This was not the type of attention that I am used to from other airlines. Maybe this... read full review »

I spent 2 days thinking I cancelled a flight before it's scheduled departure, the difficulty of the website to cancel should be reviewed by a consumer agency since it is very difficult to receive confirmation that you actually cancelled the flight. To my disappointment I found out this evening that they are to busy to address my concerns--How selfish of me to think I would actually speak with a concerned customer service rep. Legally I was owed $228.40. They proceeded to explain that they did not receive the email I had sent and did not have a record of any calls. I however am a consumer who... read full review »

I had tried several times to book my flight online through virginamerica, but was stopped at the point where I could purchase my flight.

Frustrated I proceeded to call the customer service desk for assistance, while I still had the screen available for viewing. As I am talking to the representative, I select the purchase button again and the price changes before my eyes. I tell the rep what has occurred and his only answer was, I;m sorry I can;t help you, mayne you should change your flight ime or fly on a dofferent day. I asked to speak to a supervisor, to see what he could recommend. I further...

I'm currently waiting to talk with someone from Virgin "Guest Care" after getting the run around this morning while talking with several telephone agents. The previous day I had faxed in a doctor's letter stating I should not fly due to an ear infection (they had asked me to do this in order to make changes without adding the associated fees involved for making a change). The letter sent to "Guest Care" stated I needed to change my current travel plans with the airline and had a confirmation # attached along with fax number. I asked them to advise me with future booking options. No response! No...

When a couple of people from a Middle Eastern country hastily left our plane after being seated, it created quite a stir. The head steward efficiently had the area stripped down as the couple's bags were found in the cargo section and removed. His calm made a big difference as he fielded questions, accomodated those of us in the area, and worked with a new stewardess. The rest of the trip was uneventful and very pleasant. Our kids loved the video screens and personal gaming systems. The kit bags were wonderful touches, comfy socks and toothbrushes in fun colors.  And of course, really good tea.... read full review »
