To the Point

We went to and from London on two beautiful planes - air busses - brought to us by Virgin Air. It was our first experience with this airline and I was quite impressed. The planes each way were slightly different but the configuration (2 seats - 4 seats - 2 seats) and the service were the same.

A Closer View

I'll get the first negative over with and say that the coach class seats are small. Neither my husband nor I are large people but if we were any larger we would have been uncomfortable. The second problem I have (since I don't fly anything but coach) is the name of the section above first class. I'm used to the term first class and did once a long time ago fly first class but Virgin Air has an upper class. That name irks me; however, if you are lucky enough I guess to be upper class you'll get seats that lie down as in a bed! You'll have not only bar service but a square bar from which you'll be serviced.

Ok now to what I enjoyed. The plane was clean. Every seat had a removable head piece. The planes were huge. I don't usually like to sit in the back because it's noisy but going we were in the next to last row (64) and heard no noise. Coming back we were in 38.

We found a pillow, blanket and kit with socks, toothbrush, toothpaste and eye mask on our seats both ways.

The food was amazing. We had options of vegetarian, Kosher, regular or specific diet requests. The food was actually good and there lots of items on the tray including a salad, roll, dessert and ready for this.....a wine glass - complementary glass of wine was served to everyone. I don't know if they carded or not.

Since we traveled all night going we got a snack as morning came and more beverages. Coming back we were flying into Boston close to midnight. They served us a snack before dinner. Close to the time we were landing the flight attendants came around with mints!

Last but not least were the screens in front of us. We had access to games, first run movies, television shows and more. On the way going the screen and controller wasn't as nice as the ones coming back so hopefully that will be fixed on the Virgin Air plane we were on.

Jo's Viewpoint
I like it!

The exchange rate between the USD and the Pound is pretty terrifiying isn't it? Virgin sounds like an option. Thanks for writing.

The weak dollar should scare you. Buying a coke for a pound.79 cents sounds ok but it = $4.00. YIKES!! That was England. Jo

I haven't done any foreign travel in almost three years, and I'm getting itchy feet. I'm toying with the idea of a trip back to NZ and Australia later in the year, but the week dollar is scaring me.

Virgin Cola huh? WAIT that's what they passed out on board. I had a diet Virgin Cola - it was awful and I mean awful. I know I'm a picky Diet Coke drinker but no wonder it bombed! Jo

Well one of the guys here left a comment on a fitness review of mine telling me that round was a shape:) I think they may want to force (They being Virgin Air) people to go first class. Jo

We had an amazing trip other than the pound being 1/2 what our dollar is worth! I wrote one review and am looking forward to writing a whole bunch more. Jo

Sounds like a good choice. ;>

Yep, that Sir Richard Bransen fellow (owner of Virgin) is quite ingenious. His Virgin Cola bombed, though. LOL! NIce review!

It's been a while since I've flown, at least when I was sober, ;P but this sounds like a fine airline. The last time I flew was about 6 yrs ago. Seems they build coach seat as though everyone is 5'2 and 98 lbs....Have they NEVER seen all those news shows on how, er, "heavy", Americans tend to be?.............

This sounds a lot like Air NZ's trans-Pacific service. The Air Bus is really passenger-friendly. Hope you had a great trip!
