My husband deployed to Iraq early this morning, so suffice it to say, I have been feeling blue all day. Right around dinnertime, a friend dropped by to give me a plate of cookies and to offer encouragement. Both were greatly appreciated. After she left (and as I started to dig in to the chocolaty-goodness), I realized that the plate had writing on it. I dug a bit further and found out that she had left instructions for the plate under the cookie pile. The plate was a Villeroy and Boch/KitchenAid Cook for the Cure plate.
Here's how it works. You buy the special plate, which says "Cook for your family, Cook for your friends, Cook for the cure," at shopkitchenaid.com or at Villeroy and Boch retail stores. Each plate costs $25 and qualifies for free shipping and handling. Then, you cook something yummy, put it on the plate, and bring it to a friend. Next, you register your "pass" online at cookforthecure.com/passtheplate. Your friend repeats the process, and so on and so forth. For every "pass" registered online, KitchenAid donates $5 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
I immediately went online and bought 4 plates...one for my personal kitchen and 3 more to pass. Sometime next week, I am going to bring 4 of my good friends some cookies and this wonderful plate. I'm sure they will all be as excited about this great idea as I am.
The KitchenAid/Villeroy and Boch "Pass the Plate" chain ranks among the best I have ever heard of. It supports a good cause and strengthens friendships at the same time. After you have registered your pass, you can follow the progress of your plate online. How fun would it be to get your plate back and be able to see all those people who have participated in this worthy cause. I can't wait for my plates to get here so I can start baking for the cure!
