When you live in the country and have pets no amount of screens will keep the flies from getting in the house on occasion. Now I don't mind using the old method of swatting the little buggers and yelling like a crazed lunatic sometimes. But for a rest I decided to go to the store and get me some good old fly paper! Oh how I remember getting tangled up in a few when I was younger, but they do work good.

Hanging up the sticky things

We had a hole in the front screen that I hadnt' noticed and one day the flies were just dive bombing me. Thats the day I went and got some Victor Fly Catchers to help me battle the buzzing devils. Something about sticky paper that just attracts the darn things, I hung them up about noon and my daughter got home around 3:40. She walks into the family room and asks me "Dad why did you hang raisins from the ceiling?" In a period of 3 1/2 hours the thing was darn near full of flies. WoW they worked fast and I never figured there were so many in the house.

It had me puzzled to say the least, then my daughter walks off and comes back 2 minutes later and wants one for her room. I ask why and she says her room is full of them!! Okay now I know they didn't all come from the little hole in the front screen, come to find out her window was wide open with no screen in it. That solved that little mystery so I hung one up in her room and hung 2 more up around the house.

In less than 24 hours they were full and the flies were all gone and I still had another 4 pack just in case. So I figured I would just hang 4 new ones up in the corners and make sure we were not dive bombed any more.

Bottom Line

If those pesky little buggers are given you a fit, don't chase them all over the place get yourself some Victor Fly Catchers and you too can have your own hanging raisins! Now I just leave 2 hanging for the strays that get in from letting the dogs out during the day. Lets me rest while the flies die anyway....I know just like a Redneck huh....lol

I'll just have to try the Victor Fly Catchers. I think they would be great to have hanging near the picnic table or by the campfire pit whenever I go camping.

The original fly strips were impregnated with arsenic, these are so much safer.

12 gauge is too easy, 22 rifle would be more sporting ;-)

Ya know, a few of these fly strips, a couple mosquito zappers, a 12-gauge shotgun, and a six-pack of ice cold brewskis, and a typical redneck could be all fixed up for a high quality Saturday night of serious entertainment...
