I bought this to use on my 8 week old son as a back up to another thermometer. The stupid thing NEVER worked. I followed the instructions exactly. I went online to double check. It never beeped. It never read a temp. It only showed error on the display. I was going to return it but I got more satisfaction smashing the piece of junk with my bare hands. Terrible product!

When I first started looking for rectal thermometers, I have to admit that I was scared. I didn't want to hurt my child in anyway and I was a little weirded out by the prospects of having to take his temperature in that manner. After reading reviews on tons of thermometers, I realized that for accuracy, I was going to **have **to get a...(insert scary dramatic music) *rectal *thermometer. I literally chose the Vick's Rectal Thermometer because of the size. I figured there was no way I could mess up. After carefully reading the instructions, I used it when my son came down with a cold. Please note, the instructions specifically say to not use Vaseline. If you want lubrication, use KY. All I had at the time was Vaseline and I thought, "Seriously, what can it hurt?" There was no way I wasn't going to use anything. Using Vaseline, the temperatures were never the same, or accurate. I took the Vaseline off and it worked. It worked accurately and consistently everytime. I really learned a lesson of, "**Follow the directions."** This thermometer is reasonably priced and comes with a clip on cover. It works quickly, beeps when the reading is finished, and because of it's size, safety isn't an issue.

The Vick's Baby Rectal Thermometer is great! I purchased it when I was pregnant with my youngest child.  After reading only positive reviews, I decided on this one and I am very happy with it.  It is accurate, and QUICK! The quick part of my favorite.  It is also a nice size and not too long.  It's easy to insert and the design prevents it from going in too far.  I love the way it lights up with the termperature as well.  It also beeps when it is done.    I wish I had this when my son was a baby.  Other thermometers can beep with errors several times before getting it right and some take forever to confirm temperature.  It can also be used for under arm temperature as well which is useful for older children.  I'd recommend this thermometer over any other especially to new moms.  Its the least frustrating thermometer I've encountered and also the quickest.  With babies quick is the way to go!

When you think your baby is sick, you don't want to wait forever to find out if that little bit of warmth is actually a fever. The Vicks Baby Rectal Thermometer is the only thermometer out there I'd consider! It has a quick read, which is important to parents (and probably much more comfortable for your baby!) who need a fast answer. The shape makes it impossible to over-insert the thermometer, taking a lot of worry out of the process, especially for newbie parents and sleep-deprived people. Some people may consider other "quick read" thermometers or ear/forehead/pacifier thermometers for ease of use, but don't! This is easy, and much more reliable than other methods of getting a baby's true temperature. You won't regret this one =)

I absolutely LOVE the Vicks Baby Rectal Thermometer. I love the small design of the thermometer and the fact that they probe is small and comfortable to use. No one enjoys having to take their little ones temp, so this fast reading thermometer is excellent. I also like that the screen lights up and you can see the reading easily in the dark. It is very affordable and accurate as well. I have never been happy with regular thermometers when taking a babies temp...take too long, etc. This one is designed with mom and baby in mind and helps us to check on our sick babies quickly and with ease. I am thankful Vicks must have listened to the concerns of moms when designing this fabulous product. Thanks, Vicks!!

We bought the Vicks rectal thermometer just so we could get accurate temperature readings when our baby was running a high fever. The only thing nice about this thermometer is the design which makes sure that you don't insert the thermometer too deep in. As for accuracy, it was a complete bust. The first time we used it, it gave a reading which was completely different from the one taken from the armpit. We thought that the armpit reading is probably not reliable and just confirm we decided to take another reading (which was not easy at all because of a squirming baby) and the second reading was 5 degrees lower!! So much for accuracy and reliabilty. And to top it all, the battery life sucks. The battery died while it was lying on the shelf just after a few months and just when we needed it the most. What a complete waste. I threw this one out and invested in a Braun ear thermometer instead.

After researching many different thermometers for our new little one, we decided on getting the vicks baby rectal thermometer for several reasons. First, it is better and more accurate to take a rectal temperature, so while there are many thermometers out there that are very easy to use without worrying about putting a thermometer up your baby's bottom (which doesn't sound fun at all), I'd rather only have to take a temperature once and feel secure knowing that what it reads is probably most reliable. Also, it only takes a second for it to take the temperature, and it lights up so you can read it in the dark. Probably one of the best things about this rectal thermometer is that it has a small tip that is very easy to use in knowing how far to put it into baby's bottom. It's not like you can put it too far up there because the way it is designed shows you how far to insert, plus it is a short tip so it won't fit far enough to cause any real damage anyway. Easy to clean.

No issues at all with this thermometer and it's being used for my second chid. The reading is very fast and very accurate. The tip is small, so it does not harm baby and shows mom or dad how far to insert, which can be terrifying at first. It is very easy to clean - just swipe with a wipe or cotton ball. The battery life is amazing. I have had this for over three years and never had to replace it. It is small, so it travels well and does not take up much space in the changing table drawer or bathroom. Since it is small, I was also able to hide it in the palm of my hand if I faced resistance from my older child when he needed his temperature checked. I recommend this to all new moms and include it in all my baby shower gifts. I own many Vicks products and have not had any issues, so I encourage you to buy this for any new addition. It is the best to have when you need a fast and accurate reading.

When my son was born and the pediatrician told me taking their temperature rectally was the best, I was nervous as a first time mom as to how to do it. My husband went to the store to get a rectal thermometer as we didn't register for one and he brought home the Vicks Baby Rectal Thermometer. The thermometer is easy to read and use. It beeps and then is ready be inserted-which is something else that made me nervous. The baby didn't realize it and the tip is so small that it doesn't bother or hurt them. The thermometer reads quicky, I woudl say in under 10 seconds and gives an accurate reading. I now use it with my toddler and he still doesn't get bothered by it. Wiping it down with alochol and placing the plastic protecter on top is super easy and it is ready for our next use. I would give this in a basket full of my other favorite baby products. I know as a new parent all of these things make you a little nervous, but we like using our Vicks Baby Rectal Thermometer.

I knew I wanted a rectal thermometer for my infant since I'd heard they were the most accurate.  This seemed to be the best-rated one at the best price.  I was not disappointed!  The readings are fast and consistent.  I don't second-guess the readings and I have confidence using the readings to decide when to call the doctor or administer meds.  It's well-designed so you can't insert it too far.  It's easy to clean, easy to store, and small enough to take with you when needed.  It's also very lightweight. For all this, this thermometer is also very affordable.  I had a lot of reservations about thermometers with disposable tips or covers that can be used rectally or on other parts of the body.  Vicks Baby Rectal Thermometer is affordable enough that you can buy one of these dedicated rectal thermometers and still have money for different one if you like.  I think every parent of an infant should have one of these on hand.
