Once I got tired of the mediocre service from AT&T and had my chain pulled for the last time I switched to Verizon Wireless. I have been with them since March of 2005 and I have not regretted it one bit. I do have the family plan with them and we both use the LG VX8100.

Before I switched I had a long talk (I did most of the talking) with the salesman at the local Verizon location in southwest Wichita. He was a bit intimidated it seemed (I am 6'2 at 220lbs and have tattoo's plus my disgust for AT&T was still fresh..lol) But he warmed up after a while. Anyway I explained to him what AT&T ( then Cingular) had done to me. I told him that they told me the nearest tower to me was 20 miles away, yet their website put it at 8.2 miles (closer as the crow flies). He looked up the cell towers here in Wichita and told me I was correct about the towers location (one lie for AT&T) and that not only was AT&T on it but Verizon was as well. I told him I needed my cell phone for 2 reasons, one to stay in touch with my girls and 2 in case my knees gave out while I was out in the yard and needed help.

After explaining to me their plan options and assuring me I would get service where I lived (we got out the map on this one) he asked if I was ready to sign up. Well I was still reluctant to do so. Then he asked me if I picked my phones and a plan would I be willing to try it for 30 days and if I wasn't happy we would cancel the whole thing. Plus I would get 100% of my money back. Now I realize most cell providers probably do this (but I was not familiar with anyone doing it) So I agreed (with it in writing), then signed all the papers and off I went.

Let me tell you...lol in less than 30 days I had used every single minute on that plan. I called from the bathroom, the garage I even got in my crawl space and used the phone. The least amount of bars I ever got was 2 and that was in the crawl space. Boy was I a happy camper, a kid at Christmas even. You see AT&T (Cingular) told me nobody provided cell phone coverage in my neighborhood (two lies for AT&T).

So I have now had them ever since that day and only one hitch with customer service. My bluetooth gave up the goat on me about 6 months ago, so off to the store I went. I went up to the service counter and let us just say WWIII started. I was told by the young lady that it worked fine after I told her I could hear them, but they could not hear me 75% of the time. She claimed that she checked it and it worked fine. Well when someone walks 10 feet away and comes back 30 seconds later I doubt they did squat!! I threw the thing in the garbage can, told her where to stick it (she was the manager) and left.

I got in my truck and dialed Verizon's number and was greeted by a very nice voice that listened to my problem. I was put on hold for about 2 minutes and she came back on. She asked what would make me happy? I told her all I wanted was a working bluetooth, not the world and certainly not to be treated like an idiot by a service manager. She asked me to hold once more and promised it would be less than 2 minutes.

Once again she got back on and she then told me to go back to the store and get a brand new one at no charge. She told me to speak with the manager and I would be taken care of. Well I told her I wasn't going to talk to that woman again after what she put me through cause sparks would fly.

I was told to talk to the head cheese this time...hmmmm Anyway he was in route from another location and would meet me there in 30 minutes. I not only got my bluetooth problem fixed, but got an apology from the area manager.

Now when a company goes through that much to make a customer happy (my bluetooth was past the 1 year old stage) and you get a personal apology from not only Verizon customer service, but also the area manager. I am impressed to say the least and I got a free bluetooth as well!

Bottom Line

I am impressed by the customer service (minus the one employee) and I also am impressed with the service. I travel between here and Indiana to see my girls whenever I can, also my sister in Maryland. Out of the miles between here and the east coast I have only had a few no service area's and all were in the middle of no where. I get service where AT&T claims there is none, my bill is always correct and I love their website. When a company is straight forward with me and doesn't feed me BS, while also supplying great service I am a happy camper.

They have many plans and options (text, picture messaging. road side service, data plans, family plans, music and many more). A wide selection of phones and accessories to suit most any taste and great customer service. It also helps that they have nationwide coverage with few dead zones (at least between here and Indiana as well as Maryland).

So if you are thinking of getting a cell phone or are tired of your current carrier, give Verizon a chance. They just might surprise you!

We have had T-Mobile for so long.. You have NO idea how many times we've said we would switch or threatened them with switching. Not sure why we don't! Jo

Back before Bell bought At&T my brother had one of their phones. The antenna, which was detachable, broke. They refused to replace it telling him he would have to buy a new phone. He switched companies and never regretted it.
