I have had Verizon for the past year.  Their coverage is great and sound quality is the best I've had so far with a provider.  However, I am switching from Verizon for 2 reasons.  One, Verizon limits consumer protection/choice.  They won't let you switch your rate plan without renewing a one-year contract.  If their service is good, why are they so worried about people switching that they think of new ways to lock you into a contract?  Verizon locks their phones so you can't take it to another carrier which is bad for the pocketbook and the environment.  More information on protecting yourself from cell providers is available at www.consumersunion.org.

Secondly, Verizon is a sponsor of rodeo events, and they refuse to adopt a corporate policy of only sponsoring events that do not torture animals.  Giving money to rodeo events so they can violently jerk calves to the ground while they run up to 27 mph is just plain wrong.  Verizon is like the mob giving money to torture and kill others.  What's next for Verizon...are they going to sponsor dogfighting?  More information on rodeos is available at www.rodeocruelty.com.

Verizon has since changed the policy regarding account changes. You can upgrade or downgrade your calling plan without extending the contract. As for the phones, take them to a battered women's shelter and get the tax deduction while tortured women in transition can have a way to call for emergency help if needed.

verizon wireless does not require a contract renewal with a price plan change anymore. not sure about the rodeo stuff, but I've changed my plan like 4 times, and I know my contract wasn't affected ever.

I don't know why are Verizon Wireless companies would be different, but I have changed my plan 3 times and have never had to start my contract over.
