Veggie Patch Portobella and Garlic Burgers —

Make no mistake about it, Rudi Xeno is a carnivore. I do like my animal protein.

Does that mean that I don't from time to time engage in self debate over the ethics of eating other animals?  Of course I do.  But in between these debates I do continue to eat them.  Which brings us to the subject of burgers.  Love them!  The Creator sure had a sense of taste while planning the male bovine specimen.  Make mine bloody red on the inside, charred on the outside and please pass the bleu cheese.  Oh yes!

But, then I love my vegetables too.  It's not at all unusual for me to prepare and my family to enjoy an all plant based meal.  No sacrifice involved here.  We just happen to be in the mood.

Whether it's a Vegetable Torte, following a Squash Soup or a spicy chilled Gazpacho we can really get into an all vegetable meal.

One of our favorites

It's not unusual at all for us to skip the hearty Hamburgers and substitute Portobella mushrooms served in their stead, complete with cheese and sweet onion toppings toppings.  Sometimes the Portobellas are natural and fresh, but often we'll poke around the freezer for the Veggie Patch Portobella and Garlic Burgers that are sure to be there.  Honestly, we love their taste over all other veggie burgers.

You'll note however that the name of this all vegetable product omits the word "mushroom".  While it could be an oversight or a desire to streamline the name, it is probably due to the fact that the primary ingredient found in this product is in fact not Portobella Mushrooms at all, but the far more common "texturized vegetable (soy) protein".  The texturized protein is normally responsible for the hamburger-like texture of all veggie patties.  Fortunately their is enough Portobella and garlic in these patties to impart their signature tastes.  A very good thing.

So no, while not being a genuine Portobella Mushroom and Garlic Burger, mushroom and garlic lovers will find a lot to love here tastewise.  They come pre-cooked, require nothing more than reheating on grill, oven or (gulp) microwave.

My Viewpoint

Of all the Veggie Burgers we have tried I'll readily admit that these are our favorites.  Usually purchased in bulk packages at BJ's Wholesale Club, I recommend them to all who love the earthy flavor of Portobellas and the zing provided by a healthy dose of garlic.  I do suggest that they are served after being reheated on a grill for maximized taste.

Enjoy,

Rudi
