I have started vegetables from seed for 35 years now. I can tell you that vegetable seed are the most reliable seed there is to get started. I plant a garden every spring and always have a wonderful crop of delicious vegetables. I plant from seed: watermelon, yellow squash, zucchini, spinach, cowpeas, green beans, lima beans, radish, cantalope, peppers of every variety, kale, tomato, carrot, corn, (I may have forgotten some). But I have never been able to plant onion seeds and get a crop. That's the only vegetable seed that I just won't try to plant from seed any more. I also plant many annual and pernneal flowers from seed. I find seed a very convenient and easy way to plant. I do buy some things in plant form, like onion sets, blackberrys and grapes. But I try to start everything I can from seed. It makes me feel like I have really accomplished something when I see a plant pop out of the ground from a seed that I put just under the soil. That's exciting!
