Vectra 3D
for Dogs 2.5-20 Lbs

I've always used Frontline Plus on my dogs to protect them from fleas and ticks. My vet quit carrying it around six (6) months ago. They wanted to try a new product called Vectra 3D. I had never heard of it, but the good news was it cost a little less than Frontline Plus. I usually paid around $90.00 to $95.00 for Frontline Plus. Now, I pay $85.00 for a 6-pack of Vectra 3D.

About The Vectra 3D~
It helps protect your dog from fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. Do not use on cats. Vectra 3D repels and kills all stages of fleas, four species of ticks, and three species of mosquitoes. It kills fleas before they can lay eggs, kills 96% of fleas on your dog within 6 hours and up to 100% in 12 hours of application. Vectra 3D still remains effective after bathing your dog and after they so swimming. Just apply the medicine on the back of your dog's neck once a month.

The longer your dog is infested with fleas, the greater risk your dog may develop anemia, tapeworms, or even a flea allergy. Some of the signs are pale gums, weight loss, rash, hair loss, inflammation, and severe itching.

My Viewpoint
The Vectra 3D applicator is much easier to open and apply than Frontline Plus. I always wear disposable gloves when applying the medicine to my dogs so I do not get it on my hands. My dogs have never had fleas in the 6-months that I have been using it. However, when my dogs were on Frontline Plus they did have fleas from time to time. The reminder stickers that are included with the Vectra 3D can be put on your calendar. This is very helpful to me because if it is not written down on my calendar, I will forget it.

I will caution you when applying the medicine to more than one dog/cat to put the other animal in another room. Why? Well, after applying Vectra 3D to my oldest Jack Russell Terrier last month, my other Jack Russell licked the medicine on the back of his neck. I panicked because the box says, "This product may have serious harmful effects if ingested by a cat." I know you are not supposed to use this product on cats and I figured if any animal ingested it, this would be bad. I called the vet immediately and of course it was after hours. I paged my vet and he took forever to call me back. He told me that my dog would be fine, but he may have a very dry mouth. This could also happen if you have dogs and cats in your home no matter what product you use.

I would recommend the Vectra 3D for all pet owners. This not only protects my dogs from fleas and ticks, but also mosquitoes. Frontline Plus only protected them from fleas and ticks. I give it 5 stars!

I recently took my vets advice to switch my dog's flea medicine from Frontline to Vectra 3D. He never mentioned how toxic it is to cats. The warning on the label states to not apply to cats. Fine, I give my cat advantage. However, after applying this new medicine to my dog my cat became violently ill and almost died in the middle of the night. After being rushed to the emergency clinic and staying there for 24 hours she is still in bad shape. My cat and dog are close, sometimes they sleep together. I had no idea that by switching my dog's flea medicine to Vectra 3D would kill my cat! And it almost did.

Thank you for reading and sending me a comment about my Vectra 3D review. I have been using Vectra 3D on my dogs over a year now. I am very happy with the product. None of my dogs have had fleas. Whereas with Frontline I found fleas on my dogs. My vet quit carrying Frontline because many clients complained that they were finding fleas on their pets. I appreciate your honesty and concern. Thanks! ~Krista Lynn

You might want to keep in mind that Frontline Plus is the only veterinary flea product that works by affecting the flea's nervous system in three different receptors, therefore hyperexciting the flea and causing it to dance on top of the haircoat as it is dying. Frontline does not repel fleas and honestly, according to Dr. Mike Dryden at KSU, the only one in the world witht a PhD in flea biology, no product actually repels fleas or ticks.
You might want to ask your vet why he actually quit carrying Frontline. Most vets who carry Vectra only switched because Vectra claims to have a tracking device and promises vets that their product will never be found on the grey market, like the demand has created for Frontline. They do not choose this product because it is the best medicine for your pet--they choose it out of an emotional response to PetMeds, etc. to maintain their bottom line. I know this because I work for the company who makes Frontline and deal with this on a daily basis.

I think the Vectra 3D could be a great product, but i don not like it beeing greasy for so long. Here in Kansas, we have not had very much luck with it, but it's great that it worked for you. I personally like the advantix over the Vectra 3D!!

I like Vectra better than Frontline. It is so much easier to open the applicator. I have not seen even 1 flea on my dogs. Thanks for reading!

I wish that I would have read this before buying Frontline for my dog yesterday. If the Frontline doesn't work, then I'll definitely buy the Vectra 3D instead. Good review!

Rustie my oldest Jack Russell was abused. Somehow he ended up on the streets; he probably ran away from those mean people. Then the animal shelter grabbed him. Someone at the shelter knew the lady that ran the Jack Russell Rescue and he ended up there until I adopted him. The day the Jack Russell Rescue took him from the shelter was the same day my 1st Jack Russell died. I wanted another Jack Russell and I searched on the internet for a week before I find Rustie on petfinder.com. Now, Rustie was in Florida and I lived in Georgia. I have relatives in Florida and so we drove down there to pick him up. We picked him up on my parent's wedding anniversary. JR Rescue did not know Rustie's birthday so I made his birthday the day I picked him up. He is now 7 years old and very happy Jack Russell. Then I adopted another Jack Russell a year ago, but this time it was a puppy. I have my hands full now.

Linda, my sister-in-law, has a very compassionate heart toward ALL of God's creatures. We aren't even allowed to smash bugs in her house, really! My brother said if there was a toupee on the dresser she would feed it believing it was a rat. The picture of Tiger Lily is a special one. Lily was thrown over their fence as a puppy. Her owner's abandoned her, threw her puppy training papers and a bag of puppy food over the fence too. My sister donates every month to Pets Inc and various animal charities.

My heart always has a soft spot for abused/unwanted animals. I can't believe your brother and sister-in-law have 10 of them. God Bless them! The kittens are so cute.

GigiandAdonai wrote on Oct 21, 2008 at 8:22PM

My brother and sister-in-law also rescue dogs and then keep them. At this time they have 10! I posted some pictures Saturday on my profile. They had 6 kittens born about 4 wks. ago and then 7 more born Friday night. Look at my photos to see them.
