    GREAT VALENTINES DAY GIFT

JAN

2008
As I sit here and reminisce about the past I remember when my now grown Daughters decided to give me something Special for Valentines Day one year. They were very young then and I had just become a single Dad. My oldest was 10 and the youngest was 5 and they were Daddy's Girls all the way.

I was awakened by my two little girls jumping on the bed and begging me to wake up. I was first presented with the 2 most colorful cards I had ever seen. Hand drawn and colored with crayons with little red hearts all over it. Then I was told I had to close my eyes and hold out my hand. I was then led to the kitchen and told to sit down and not peek.

I smelled the aroma of pancakes and just knew the kitchen was a mess but I kept my eyes closed as told. Then I heard the plate put before me and was told by both I could now open my eyes. What lay before me actually brought tears to my eyes and really touched me deeply.

The Best Valentines Day Present Ever!

Before me was the most beautiful pancake I had ever seen in my life. It filled the plate and was to me a Perfect Heart Shaped Pancake! On it written with cake icing was "We Love You". Beside the plate was a small glass filled with a Red Liquid that they had concocted from White Karo Syrup and Red Food Coloring! For my 2 little girls too go through all this for me really was a touching moment. I grabbed them both and gave them a big hug and asked them where they learned to make pancakes from.

It was then I found out that they had gotten all their information from their Maw-Maw ( My Mom)and wanted to make Daddy happy. They did more than that, they made me proud that they wanted to cook for me and that they had worked for over an hour to get it just right. In the sink were their many trials of failed Hearts laying in the sink.. How could I be mad at them? I couldn't be mad. I was only filled with a great feeling of Joy in my heart.

Over the years I have gotten many gifts for Valentines Day, but never have I gotten such a wonderful completely personal gift as I did over 20 years ago. You could give me a million dollars and never come close to that Special Gift from my little girls. I bet it took the better part of half a box of pancake mix before they got it the way they wanted it. The Love they felt for me to do that is immeasurable by anyones standards.

Bottom Line

Two little girls taught me a very valuable lesson that day and I will never forget it either. The Perfect Valentines Day Gift is not what you buy or do for that special someone. It is the Love that is put into the gift that counts. That day two little girls gave me the BEST Gift I could ever get, a gift from the Heart!

You're so right. My husband would much rather have had a home made gift from the kids than a keychain! Jo

In response to CyndiA's comment from Jan 31, 2008 at 6:15PM:

Thank You..Yes they do, but peers put so much pressure on boys and they are afraid of being labeled a sissy or Momma's boy. I think they would try harder if not for that. Ron

Great story. Boys have a harder time with Valentine's Day I think. Bless them though. They usually try.
