We kept buying $20 phones and replacing them at least once a year, so this was our upgrade.  I was a bit concerned about having an attached answering machine (I like my units separate, so if one breaks, you can replace just the broken unit), but I can overlook that.  Mine came with 3 handsets and the answering machine.  This phone has good sound quality and has just about everything you can imagine, as previously stated by other reviewers.  The digital answering machine can sometimes be a bit hard to understand when you play it back, but that seems to be the case with every digital machine I've had.  These have a long battery life and are quite durable~my 2-year old has put that to the test!  I would buy this set again.
