I have been very interested in getting a variety of product that I can use on various people. As a makeup artist, I am well aware that some products work well for some people, and not very well at all for others.
One of the products I first heard about some years ago now, is a product by URBAN DECAY called PRIMER POTION. I saw many raves and glowing reports about this miraculous stuff that kept on eyeshadow all day long and even through sleeping for some people.
I could not wait to try some of this fabulous stuff.
Since at that time we had nothing local to try or buy anything really good for high end makeup work, I had to send away for the URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION.
WHAT IS URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION LIKE?
In a Genie In A Bottle container, URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION comes with an interesting lid that fits with the whole theme of the bottle. The applicator is a bit of a sponge tip similar to some lipglosses. It used to be straight, but now it comes slightly bent to make it seem improved.
There is a sheer miky liquid inside which is odorless and is a light nude peach in color.
HOW DO YOU USE URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION?
When I first tried URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION, I applied it to the lids using the applicator similar to the way I would apply lip gloss to my lips. I did not use too much product, but enough to cover my lid and brow area.
Eyeshadows would not stay on well- in fact they still creased. I was about ready to return the product when a friend told me that I needed to use the TINIEST bit of primer and dot it on my lid. Then with my finger, smear it all around until it was almost invisible. ( I do have to say that it does stay pretty light looking once in the skin and dried, however, so it is never really invisible.)
Once I learned the more sparing application, I experienced a great enhancement of performance. Eyeshadows stayed in place all day and did not come off until I washed it off at night using my usual Lamas Face and Body orange cleanser.
COMMENTS
I have had many years to experiement with and use my URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION. Unfortunately, I personally can not use it as I get problems with it causing burning and lid sensitivity. I could get away with using it once a week or so if I was cautious, but performance wise, I was disappointed. The raw lids that I was left with made me wish there was a Genie in that bottle to bring me better lids again.
When I compared it with TOO FACED SHADOW INSURANCE, I found that the TOO FACED gave a much better pigment payoff- colors were deeper and more dimensional than with the PRIMER POTION.
I did not get the problems with raw lids that I did with the PRIMER POTION either, although I still had to be cautious not to use it TOO often.
One of my biggest problems with the URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION is that it comes with .34 oz of product, but the irregular hourglass shape of the bottle makes it almost impossible to use up more than half of the container unless you cut the top of it off and scoop it out into something else.
That is very challenging to do and ridiculous.
However, I do find that on people that have more oily lids URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION seems to work better than on people with normal to dry lids. It is not written in stone, but is a tendency of the product. I use both primers for makeup applications depending on the person I am doing makeup for.
You can get URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION for $17 at Sephora or Urban Decay's web sites.
