Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion —

UDPP

It is  a a mysterious term for those who are not initiated into the world of online makeup discussions.

I remember spending quite a while trying to figure out what UDPP stood for- (U didn't pose perfectly?).....then one day someone enlightened me- UDPP is the abbreviation for URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION.

WHAT IS UDPP LIKE?

UDPP (which is what I will refer to it as from this point on), is a primer liquid that you are supposed to put on your eyelids to make a good base for eyeshadows and other makeup.

The primer comes in a light purple "genie in a bottle" style bottle with a screw top wand that has a flocked applicator on the end.

HOW DO YOU USE UDPP?

The idea of UDPP is to apply only a dot of product to the lid and spread it very thinly all over the lid, being careful not to apply too much.  Applying too much product will cause the shadows or pigments to crease so it is best to avoid that.

Once the primer is applied, then any powdered product will grip better and in many cases will stay put all day long.

It is easily removed with soap and water or a basic makeup remover.

It is $16 at most places that sell  Urban Decay, including ULTA and SEPHORA stores and online sites.

MY COMMENTS

A lot of people use URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION for their eyes daily and have no problems.  Many use it on their lips, under the eyes, etc.

First of all, it does leave a chalky residue so that you can tell that you have something on- it is not invisible.

Secondly, I find that not everyone sticks to it as well as I would like.  I tend to keep the UDPP for natural looks only and use MAC Fluidlines for a base under colors- it adds beautiful depth.

The one thing I do NOT like about UDPP is that it makes my lids raw.  I have also found that many people are having problems with it drying out eyelids- and in many cases leaving lids red, raw, and sometimes swollen.

I personally can not use it on myself unless I only use it a few times a month- with lots of time in  between for healing.   I do not feel comfortable with it.

I prefer using TOO FACED SHADOW INSURANCE instead.  It works better and does not dry out my lids.

Also, when the bottle gets about 1/3 empty or so, it is almost impossible to get the rest out of the bottle unless you cut it apart in portions and scrape it well.  This makes for a lot of effort unless you don't mind wasting product.

IS URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION FOR YOU?

The test to see if UDPP is for you is this- if you have oily lids, then UDPP is most likely not going to give you problems.

If you have dry or normal lids, then TOO FACED SHADOW INSURANCE is a better choice.

I bought this once. I loved the pretty little purple bottle but it wasn't a practical container. You don't know when you are about to run out. I prefer the matte (beige-type) eye primers because you can wear it alone or with eyeshadow. It's also pretty small for the price (it's mostly bottle).
