Upromise Review Summary

Concerned parents like Upromise.com. This web site helps parents save for future expenses related to higher education and reviewers like that it offers an easy way to save money and they like that they can invite friends or relatives to help them earn extra financial support for their child’s college. “It Pays to Participate in Upromise” pretty much sums up the feelings of most reviewers and they all agree that “Every Little Bit Helps”. Among the criticisms of Upromise.com are the fact that it doesn’t represent a significant amount of money, even over a long period of time, unless you sign up for the Upromise.com credit card or take advantage of other offers. Still, even those who criticize Upromise.com agree that some college savings is still better than nothing and it is one Misc. Web Site that is recommended by all who have used it.

The UPromise idea is great--shop and dine as you usually would, and the companies you support will put money into your kids' college education funds.  There are lots of companies and products participating in the online shopping section, and it's easy to sign up and use the promotions.  UPromise... review »

I have been a member of this site for years.  I also have the UPromise credit card.

I think this site is very helpful.  Since the site is free to join, u get money for free.  Some people have said it isn't worth the little bit of money u receive.  But even the little bit of money is helpful.

Plus the money they deposit toward a student loan is considered interest paid - which is tax deductible!

I have a few family members signed up, but they aren't as diligent as I am about using the site for purchases.  But I am thankful for whatever they do to help!

I have been a member of Upromise since my son was born in 2003.  Since then, I have accumulated $315 in my account.  That's not a lot of money, especially for being a participant for five years.  However, it's still FREE money that I wouldn't have received if I didn't join Upromise.

Could I have accumulated more money in my account?  Absolutely.  I'm the first to admit that I don't use the online shopping link as much as I should and that I also don't use my Upromise credit card very often.  Once again though, it's still FREE money.

PROS:

Relatively easy and free to sign up.

Several ways...

In collecting as many coupons as I can for my grocery budget, I visited Upromise.com, which I already have an account at, but I had never noticed the plethora of deals and partners they have. Not to mention, the many ways you can accumulate funds for your child's education.

Upromise synopsis (provided by their website):

"Upromise is a simple, yet powerful idea.
Join today & turn everyday spending into money for college.

Nearly a decade ago, Upromise was launched based on the philosophy that everyone should be able to afford a college education. Today, with more than 9 million members, Upromise...

I've been a member of Upromise.com for about 4 years.  Last year I began to use the site more and the $ is adding up.  Many other reviewers are correct when they say that the money back is small each time that you shop.  Many of us shop online so why not get money back, whatever the amount is, we're going to shop anyway.

Tips for getting your cash back to add up:

  • Use it every time you shop online
  • Register your credit cards (even if you shop off-line, you can get $ back)
  • Register your grocery/drug store cards (Kroger, Randalls/Safeway, CVS, etc.)
  • Use the Citibank credit card for added cash back (I...

Upromise is a great site for getting free money for college. While it won't pay to send your kids or grandkids to Harvard it will help some and perhaps enough to give them other choices.
Upromise is a free site; to use and earn money for college. It does not even matter how old the person is that you are saving for, they don't care. They offer all sorts of ways to earn money for college and while most of the choices are not mind boggling big savings they are savings none the less.
There are many ways you can save for your kids education by registering your credit/debit cards, grocery story...

Upromise is a great website for anyone paying off a Sallie Mae student loan.  When you shop online and go through their website to certain merchants you get a percentage of your purchase as credit which can later be applied to your loan account.  You can also get credit for purchases of certain brands in-store, when you use a store card such as a Safeway Club Card or Fred Meyer.

I like this site because I get extra rewards that are automatically put towards my student loan accounts.  That way I'm not tempted just to spend the credit on something else.  It is easy to use and you can even purchase...

We signed up for Upromise when our son was born. My in-laws and parents also joined. Since I do a lot of shopping on-line, it's an easy way to earn money for my son's college. All you do is register with Upromise, then shop through their site. Merchants contribute between 1%-25% of your purchase to your account.  Some merchants also offer incentives such as free shipping or other special offers when you shop through their link on the Upromise site.

We also earned money through grocery shopping - you just register your store cards with them and it's automatically added when you buy qualifying...

This site is great in that it lets you invest your money.  I like the fact that it lets you get credit from your Citi card.  I like that you can get friends and family to work with you to save for your kids education.  The problem is that unless your child is an infant, you have friends and relatives working with you, or you also put cash into it, I wouldn't count on it paying for more than a couple of  books.

Upromise

Do you or a family member/friend buy groceries?  Of course, everybody does.  But, did you know that you can get money back for many of your purchases to go towards college or paying off student loans?  At Upromise you can register your debit/credit cards as well as grocery loyalty/savings cards and prepaid cards to earn money when you buy things.  I myself have used this service for a long time now and have been earning money to pay back Stafford loans that I have taken out for school.  You don't have to pay any money or spend anything extra to earn cash.  Also, your personal...

I heard about Upromise from our local grocery store. I thought it was too good to be true. I get money back for my son's college education (mind you he's 6 months) without having to change the way I do things.

Of course it was too good to be true. I had to change my spending habits a little. I now check the upromise website before I do any purchases. I buy my gas only at Exxon/Mobil. I make sure that I buy grocery products that give money back. I try to eat at local restuarants that give money back. And I go through the website to make ANY online purchases. I even signed up for their credit card....

This website is a great way to save for college, IF you have a long time before the college years are upon you.  I joined when I returned to school as an adult, and I have only saved $125.00 in three years, but when my son was born three months ago, I signed him up and I am hoping by the time he goes to college (in 18 years) we will have saved about $2000 or more.  Once the savings reach $250, they can be invested. Contirbutions do not come you, but from companies that you buy from everyday.  All you do is register your grocery savings card and the participating companies automatically deposit... review »

I found the Upromise website while I was preggers with my daughter who is now 2 1/2.  I haven't saved a ton of money with just the "extra money" you get back from buying everyday and not so everyday products. I don't save a lot by using my store savings cards because I usually don't buy name brand items. I stick with store brands for the most part. I think the way to make the most of Upromise is sign up for the 529 plan. Which if you plan to pay for part or all of your child's education you should do that anyway. Why not through Upromise so you can get the extra too? In my opinion, every cent... review »

This is a no brainer for saving for college.  If you shop online you can go through the Upromise website and rack up some pretty good savings.  It won't pay for your college but every little bit helps and it takes very little effort since you are getting money back on things you would buy anyway.  Just have to set things up on the site with your information (loyalty cards, credit cards, etc.) that you use and the rest is automatic.
