Back in May, my two sons and I had seen the commercials for Disney Pixar's movie UP several times and it looked so colorful and fun that we all agreed that we wanted to see it as soon as it came out. We don't go to the theater too often because of the outrageous prices but this one seemed like it would be worth it and it was!

The Movie

Up is the first Pixar film to be made for the Disney Digital 3-D format. Although we didn't see it at a theater that shows films in 3-D, I do know that this movie was very colorful and so much fun to watch even without the special effects. The story starts with the main character, Carl Fredricksen (Edward Asner) as a young boy who meets a young girl named Ellie (Elie Docter) who shares his passion for adventure. They both have a dream of someday traveling to South America and having their home be on top of Paradise Falls. The two eventually get married and happily grow old together, never having enough money to make their adventure a reality and unfortunately, Ellie passes away. Carl is now a grumpy 78-year-old man who is alone and about to be taken to a nursing home when he decides that he is going to finally fulfill him and Ellie's dream. After attaching what seems like thousands of colorful helium balloons to his house, it lifts off the ground and the destination is South America. Accidentally, along for the ride is a young boy named Russell (Jordan Nagai) who is a "wilderness explorer in tribe 54". This is where all the fun and laughter begins. Since I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, all I will say is that Carl and Russell meet up with talking dogs (hysterical), a villain (meanie) and a strange but very funny bird named Kevin that kept us laughing continuously through the entire movie. My sons have since it a second time and found it just as entertaining as the first.

My Final Viewpoint

UP is one of the very best movies that we have seen in a very long time and the best part about it is that no matter what age you are, you are sure to enjoy it. I think the movie has finally moved into the cheaper theaters so you should be able to see it cheap! We are waiting patiently for the DVD to be released and when it is, we will be right out there buying it. I highly recommend it and give it a very well deserved 5 star rating.

I like Pixar films; I only have Wall-E right now but I am seriously considering getting UP and Toy Story I and II. Great review, Laurie!

Wasn't this an awesome movie? I got to see the 3-D version. Well, you know that because we discussed it when I did my review. Didn't you just think little Ellie was too cute?

Oh yeah, it's the ONLY thing that takes away my pain. It got me through the dreaded "neck injury related migraines" when nothing else did.

I'm working on it! Like I told Mike, my next review is already in draft and it's on Aleve. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be able to write a review right now!

This one has been sitting in draft for months! My next review that I'm working on is on Aleve. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be typing at all! It's a miracle medicine I tell ya!
