I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and would recommend it to anyone looking for a school to be proud of.

I received my undergraduate degree from another institution and was ecstatic to be accepted into the Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis graduate program at UW.  My courses were challenging and always stimulating and my professors were nationally known researchers (in some cases, internationally renowned).  Most importantly, I enjoyed the academic freedom to thoroughly explore subjects that interested me, while receiving support from the faculty and staff.

I loved my...

Coming from MN, going to school in Wisconsin was a perfect fit. It was cheap enough with reciprpocity, and I was the perfect distance from home, about 4 hours so I wansn't there every weekend, but able to easily go back for holidays. Although there are about 40,000 undergrads, campus isn't huge and you find yourself always running into people you know from class or that party last weekend. The classes can be larger (200) but the teachers are really good and many times willing to talk with students and answer any questions. Going through the science track, I noticed that there is a lot of exciting... read full review »

The University of Wisconsin Madison is an awesome school for higher education. I graduated in 2002 with a degree in Psychology and Honors in the Liberal Arts.

If you live in MN or WI, you can go to a Big 10 school for in-state tuition prices.  There is a vast array of majors to choose from, one of the best medical schools in the country and cutting edge research facilities.

There are about 40,000 students and the campus sprawls through downtown Madison.  Your choices for sports, organizations, extra curricular activities and entertainment are limitless.  Madison is a liberal college in a liberal...

I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2000-2003 (I finished in 3.5 years). Not only is the student body diverse, but the faculty is incredible. I had wonderful professors from a range of backgrounds, and most were truly effective teachers. TA's were awesome as well. The city of Madison offers so much- I wish I would have taken advantage of more than I did while I was there. State Street has so much character and great restaurants and bars. The athletics are great too. The whole city has so many activities and so many things to do. I met so many wonderful people while I went to school...

University of Wisconsin Madison is a large, spread out campus that has everything to offer from its wide array of majors/minors, numerous classes and social activity that never ends.  This place is awesome for any student, alumni or even nonstudent.  There is so much to do and the city really does have alot of culture too.  You can find any type of food from greek to eritrean and there are many musical festivals as well.  If you are an in-state student it is highly affordable.  The only downside may be housing as there are so many students.

The biggest concern I hear from those who criticize Madison's size is the "just a number" argument. In the art program I never felt my degree classes left me with the "just a number" feeling. In larger lectures, I always made a point of getting to know my professor or TA by making use of their office visits (all professors have office hours). Every professor and TA I ever had knew me by name...if I wanted them to. I confess, I only got to know one of my "science requirement" professors/TA's.

UW Madison is not only an excellent education, but is also a beautiful campus. There is a wide variety of majors to choose from. Madison is an ideal collage town. The espenses are a little high. There is a lot of drinking and partying, but I doubt that it is the worst out there. A lot of the Profs have a tendancy to be radical in their in their beliefs, both political and general, and they influence the student body in ways that they should not. If I were looking strictly at education I would give it a solid A.

The University of Wisconsin occupies a very important place amongst State Universities. Bold, and willing to embrace and maintain programs not available at other schools, UW is a leader in inovation and scholarship.  I fondly remember my time in Madison and  plan to finish my PHD some day there in its unique environment.

For a world class University, this is a great deal. Although, if you are looking for more one-on-one face time with the professors during your freshman year, this may not be the place. But after the freshman year, most of the classes aren't giant lecture hall classes. Very liberal atomsphere, and a great student union.

Univ of Wisconsin is still a great bargin, for all types of education, especially in the science and engineering fields. Although I studied Liberal Arts, my education was still top notch.
