University of Phoenix - Online Campus Review Summary

“Convenient, but Expensive” pretty much sums up the attitude of reviewers who have attended the University of Phoenix Online. This virtual university is known for its large number of course offerings and large number of degrees available. Since the University of Phoenix online is an internet based school, there is no need to go to class on a university campus, making it a good alternative to traditional schooling for busy professionals. Reviewers point out that they generally like their experience at the University of Phoenix, but they don’t like the frequent changes in advisors and the high cost. If attending college online is something you have considered but want to pursue more options, there are other Online Degree Reviews that can help students find the right program.

If you are self-motivated, the University of Phoenix online is a great way to finish up your education. Classes are five weeks long so the pace really moves quickly. Most students take one class at a time with a week break in between each class. During my time at UoP, I doubled up on classes, staggering...

Several years ago, I tried University of Phoenix on-line. I had the intention of getting my Masters in Business. Definitely not a cake walk, that most people think. I found the course I was in harder to work in than a"normal" classroom setting. You are placed in teams and if one person does all the...

I had dreamed of going to college for 12 years when I saw a University of Phoenix commercial. I realized that the only thing preventing me from getting a degree was my fear. Fear of getting into debt, fear of what people would think, fear of reaching outside of my comfort zone, fear of not having enough time for school, and the fear of failure. Fear had kept me from pursuing my dream for way too long, and I picked up the phone and requested an information packet. A few weeks later I filled out the application and mailed it in. The day I recieved my acceptance letter is a day that I will never... read full review »

I absolutely abhorred the time I spent taking the one course I completed from University of Phoenix. It was dull, mind-numbing, horrific, draining, time-wasting; there really aren't enough words to describe what a terrible waste of everything I found it to be. I got very little out of the course, the input from the "professor" was abysmal, and keeping up with the meandering conversation threads was nigh unto impossible. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't. Oh, and it was prohibitively expensive for 5 paltry units.

When I first called the University of Phoenix, I had been thinking about going back to school for a long time, I was a homeschooling mom, a small business owner, very busy, and it had been over 20 years since I had taken any kind of academic class. The advisor that I was put in contact with was very helpful and walked me through admissions step-by-step, which was great, because I didn't have a clue about how to get through the process. I was going in to get my associates degree in business and possibly to go on and get my bachelors. I was very excited about starting school again.

The classes were...

I worked for a university, and one of my many jobs was as an advisor to prospective students. I would take all their transcripts, crunch numbers and give them an idea of time, cost and exact classes needed to obtain their undergrad or graduate degree.

I had several students who came in with University of Phoenix credit.
This is a regionally accredited campus. That is good. What this means is that the course work taken can be granted, upon departmental review, equivalent credit at another regionally accredited school.

HOWEVER, I was never able to get the students any credit from the coursework...

I went to University of Phoenix to obtain my Masters in Education, which I did. I found the school to be very convenient, as I was not able to take the time to drive to and from a real campus. After I began the program I was able to continue even though I became pregnant. I took a short break when I had the baby, and because everything was online, was still able to finish the program basically on time. The cost is much more than a traditional university, but the convenience made it worth it to me. I did not like the "learning teams." Typically I would volunteer to do all the work so I could get... read full review »

I earned my Master of Science in Nursing degree from University of Phoenix Online in 2006. I honestly don't know how I survived it. I'm glad to have my degree, but I would never do it this way, again.

It's like getting your Masters via independent study, except that nearly half your grade depends on projects you must complete with your "learning team." Sometimes you get to choose the other members of your learning team; other times they are assigned to you by the instructor. Either way, there always seems to be at least one slacker who does not contribute, but still gets the same grade as the rest...

I inquired about an advanced degree in health administration.  I had several questions that I put to the admissions representative on-line and requested answers.  All she would do is tell me to come in and visit the campus, a 190-mile round trip through nasty traffic.  She never answered the questions, but continued to call and e-mail me several more times about enrolling.  The tuition costs are astronomical with no concrete assistance in job placement at the end of the program.

Separate experience I learned of after my own experience:  A friend went through their elementary school teacher...

I work full-time and have kids at home, but I need to finish my college degree in order to move into management at work. When I applied at this university I was led to understand that I would finish up within 2 years, but 3 years later my advisor told me I needed more classes. I started taking coursework with 3 friends, all of whom have switched to other schools.

Although classes met one night per week, I had to work with a team outside of class which was very time consuming and problematic. Not only was it very difficult to rearrange our schedules to meet, I also received a low grades in some...

The advisors are changed regularly.  I have had five sets of academic and finance advisors in less than a year.  The "professors" on the most part do not teach you anything.  They give you assignments and it is yourself and fellow students who are really teaching you.  They are more expensive than many other online institutes.

I did my Masters with UOP and was skeptical at first, however, once I got started, I realized that this was for me. I love working independently and didn't have the time to sit in a classroom after working all day. For me, coming home and spending each night online fit my lifestyle. My wife was extremely supportive during the 2 years I spent online and more or less left me alone to do the papers and participate every night in classroom discussions.

The payoff?  I would not have the job I currently have if it weren't for UOP and the program that was available. My job required a Masters in Education...

I actually received my BSBA from U of P in 2004. I didn't participate in the online program for this degree. Instead I attended the Kansas City campus program.

After getting my bachelor's I decided to get my Master's from U of P but I wanted to try the online program because I was tired of sitting in class all night and the commute.

It was easy to get accepted and enrolled in the MBA program. I had one counselor for the enrollment process and he was easily accessible. I can't remember the exact cost but I remember that it was A LOT. I'm sure you are paying for the convenience too. From what I've...

I have been going to University of Phoenix now for about 9 months.  It's been over 20+ years since I last went to college and I was apprehensive about it in the first place and uncertain about online courses.

It has turned out to be a good experience,  I have enjoyed my courses so far and have an A average going.

Not everything is easy, but I've learned so much and can't wait to finish my degree.

I would recommend University of Phoenix to anyone who wants to go back to school and needs flexibility.

I just started my classes and I think its great. I can go my work when ever I get the time. I have three children and between work, basket ball, choir practice, family nights at church and every other things my children are signed up for, my time is limited. Iam able to fit in time to go to class and get all my work done. I would never have been able to go back to school, and this school is designed just for me. I think I should have done this about a year or so ago. It is hard work, but it will pay off at the end.
