University of Phoenix - Online Campus —

Several years ago, I tried University of Phoenix on-line. I had the intention of getting my Masters in Business. Definitely not a cake walk, that most people think. I found the course I was in harder to work in than a"normal" classroom setting. You are placed in teams and if one person does all the work then it can and will affect the entire group grade. I received an A, so I did well, BUT I felt like I did twice as much work than I would have been required in a "normal" classroom because my group members didn't want to share the load.   You are allowed to "grade" your group members but it didn't help my group they still were graded the same as me on our assignment. My input made no difference. I realize that this goes on in "normal" classroom setting but it is harder to prove on-line.

Another con is the price.  The prices are outrageous.   As for being good for a busy person who works full time, I felt like this added more stress to my day and I had less time for my family. I wouldn't suggest this to anyone who wants to further their education and who works full time and has a family.  I was extremely disappointed with my experience with the college. The counselors are not knowledgeable about the programs and the answers to your questions will change depending who talk to. Want to further your education?  Find a good local college/university and take a few classes at a time.  You will get a better experience, better education, and save LOTS of money!!

I totally agree. This place is a waste of time and money. It is overpriced with very under informed staff and professors. I would not recommend this college to anyone who has the opportunity to get a REAL college education. My experience was very similar.

In response to reason's comment from Mar 15, 2009 at 12:19AM:

I am sorry that you felt you needed to leave such a negative comment. You know nothing about me but yet you assume I don't take ownership of my actions. If I wasn't willing to take ownership as you say, then I would have failed the class and not done the work. Yet I did all of the group work alone and I recieved an A. I gave my opinion of a school and it's class structure as it related to me. Good for you on finishing another Master's in 11 weeks. This type of program works for you but not me as I found out. I have since went back to a local University and will be graduating soon. Instead of leaving degrading comments about people you don't know maybe you should...go study

Interesting...approximately half of your post focuses on your distaste for the quantity of work you had to do. Keep in mind, it is a Master's program. It's supposed to be challenging. I know this because I am finishing my second Master's in 11 weeks. Here's a thought...take ownership for your own actions. Be willing to sacrifice. Ultimately, if you really want it, you will make it happen.

Thanks for the input. I was considering classes at the University of Phoenix, but couldn't decide if it was worth the expense or not. Your input definitely gave something to consider, as a busy mom of four kids.

I agree. I enjoyed my classes for the most part but because of a mix up I am now stuck paying back $12,000 and I have NO degree to show for it!!!

I was thinking that my son should take courses from this place. Thanks for the heads up!

Great advice! Taking classes at your local university takes longer but is usually a better education in the long run.
