University of Phoenix - Online Campus —

I absolutely abhorred the time I spent taking the one course I completed from University of Phoenix. It was dull, mind-numbing, horrific, draining, time-wasting; there really aren't enough words to describe what a terrible waste of everything I found it to be. I got very little out of the course, the input from the "professor" was abysmal, and keeping up with the meandering conversation threads was nigh unto impossible. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't. Oh, and it was prohibitively expensive for 5 paltry units.

I love my classes at UoP but I am having issues with my finacial advisors. The first one did not return my phone calls for over a month. I finally got a hold of her and it still took her almost a month to file my Pell grant papers. Now I have a new financial advisor, I am still waiting on the Pell grant to arrive since trying to get it started in July and getting it done in August. I got the award letter saying it would be put on my account October 26 after my advisor said Nov. 9th. Now it is past the 9th and I call and there is a hold on it. Not by FAFSA but by the UoP even though I have a 3.72 GPA and I am getting a passing grade in my current class. In the last four months I have questioned my decision to attend UoP online instead of Kaplan or a different online college, trying to get financial aid and an advisor who knows what she is talking about is more stressful than the classes at times.

I am a student at UOP and I love it. I have recieved three A's and one B in my classes. I enjoy this better than a triditional classroom because I have 2 young children at home. I can stay home with my children and go to school at the same time. I enjoy UOP. I do admit that some Instructors are slower than others on the feedback that they give. But overall I would enroll if I had the chance. I enjoy the online environment. If I can do it and enjoy it you can to. You are entitled to your own opinion and I am sorry for the ones that did not like it but I do and am enjoying it very much.

You are certainly ignorant to assume I blew off anyone. Just because I didn't think UOP was worthy of my time does not mean I failed to complete my education. In this life we have choices, and opinions. I chose to attend a traditional campus-based college to complete my degree, and in my OPINION University of Phoenix was a waste of my time and money.
And YES, I felt having to spend upwards of 10 hours a week just reading the meandering threads posted by other students in order to have my participation count, not including the reading and writing assignments, WAS a waste of my time.
You must either work for UOP or you received your degree there; otherwise I cannot imagine why you would feel the need to attack my comments is such a particularly snitty manner.

I like the comment that your online program required that you be online too much. That's so crazy...having to work for your degree. I'm curious, have you graduated from another school? Or did you blow them off as well???

I don't think you have to be an emotionless drone to find this type of environment exciting. I am sorry that it did not work for you. I do agree on one thing you said though! The response time is to long. I am also sorry if i offended you in any way. I hope that you have found another way to educate yourself that is more exciting, and worth your time/money.

In response to sweetspot01's comment from Mar 4, 2009 at 1:51PM:

Actually, I was incredibly motivated.
I logged in every day for a minimum of an hour (for 1-Five unit class, mind you), sometimes more, and did all my reading and writing assignments, followed threads, posted, did everything by-the-book and then some. I got an A+ as my final score, so please don't feel you have the right to judge my motivation or lack thereof.
I found the online arena to be incredibly dull, with little opportunity for truly stimulating learning and interaction. Perhaps if I were an android I would have found it more titillating; it was not the social experience that was missing, I could care less about that - rather it was the latency, the delay in response, which accompanies this particular learning environment which I found frustrating. I still stand by my opinion, which I am certainly entitled to, that UOP was a waste of my time and money, and an experience I would never willingly repeat.

WOW! you must have had zero motivation. Please don't let one persons opinion ruin your experience at this school. I am doing it now and I love it. Maybe because I actually have motivation to keep up with the work.

I have one class left before completion of my BS/ACC degree. I truly believe you get out of it what you put in to it. With that said, yes some of my instructors were better than others, and some classes had more "zing" than others, but its the same everywhere. The classroom atmosphere depends largely on the chemistry of the students and who you get teamed with. For me, it is a dream come true. Challenging and sometimes tiring, but certainly worth every minute of the effort. My personal growth, career growth, and salary already prove it!

I have been with UOP for 3.5 years now. I completed my BSN then will complete my MSN in December of this year. I had a wonderful learning experience and would recommend UOP to anyone. The work is not easy and it is time consuming but why should it be easy? This type of learning is not for everyone. I am 53 years old with a full time job and 6 children and 2 grandchildren. I tried the traditional classroom and I did not fit in with the teenagers and the football players. I wanted an environemtn with working adults and that is what I got with UOP.

It seems like a lot of people think this way about them. My hubby and I had actually gotten info from them earlier this year, but decided against signing up with them. I am glad we did now!
