University of Phoenix is a RIP OFF

1

I attended University of Phoenix for my Bachelor's of Science in Health and Human Services as well as another two years in the Masters of Elementary Education. I do NOT recommend attending this school as it is a "FOR PROFIT" organization which means they are ENTIRELY out for your Money and your MONEY ONLY! They promise you this and that and nothing ever comes of their promises. All they are worried about is that you get your financial aid papers in on time so they can get paid in time. They dont care if you can afford it or not. another thing that is absolutely ridiculous is the price of the courses or each class. When I left there in 2010 the classes were up to over 2000.00 each!! EACH, that is not per course, this is for each class in a course! And to add insult to injury every JULY the prices of the classes increase no matter what! Shame on you University of Phoenix, helping people is what you are SUPPOSED to be about, not robbing them! Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and skip this school entirely.....your bank account will thank you in the end!

As a student presently attending UOP -  **University of Phoenix - MAED Elementary Education- program- I can tell you a few things** **As a student- you must be prepared because you are much on your own- no human classmates or profs available, however, there are such profound discussion, assignments, and such that really make it worth it. I attended ground campus that they have in some areas- and did not like it because class size was too small and students were from the same area. I loved meeting students from all walks of life from across the country- same for profs. For those who prefer live classes and live students and profs, this is not the place to me. You work mostly on your own, do your own research etc. You also work thru computer technical difficulties much by yourself but get good at it.** **One thing to be careful of is the classmates who slack off- when you are online, you cannot shake them up to make them do there work. Each class, I met a freeloader, an excuse maker and those who said they were- pregnant, ill, family problem, computer broke down, etc not to do the team assignments. Your grade is also dependent of team assignments and managing your classmates also fall to you.** **Student teaching placement was a problem too- many schools in my state do not know UOP or thinks its fly by night. You have to go in to build a relationship with local schools to be successful. Compared to my state university, I think UOP outranks it. ** **I am glad to be part of UOP. Learned a lot and met a lot of great people. Good customer service/advising, and very professional advisors, teachers, financial aids people, and enrollment counselors. You have to take initiative for a lot of things as they expect you to be a grown-up, not a young teenage student.**

I have attended the University of Phoenix for 6 years; during those years I add the please of working with many great facilitators and classmates.  The online selection allows the student to come and go as they please thus making it much easier to attend class reguarly.  The fact that the school requires their students to take one class at a time unless the requirement is waived forces the student to really focus on the information that is being provided by their class.  Students have many resources available to them so they are not only participating in the classroom but outside the classsroom as well.  The school provides many useful counselors, i.e. academic counselors and individual student teacher counselors who help to keep students on track.  Students create lesson plans and are encouraged to take their lesson plans into the school system.  Students are required to set-up appointments to observe experienced teachers so they are able to see what works in the classroom and what does not work in the classroom.
