There are many reasons your child picks a college: cost, programs available; location, size, reputation, etc. In our case we wanted our daughter to go to the best school she got into.

The University of Pennsylvania was and still is ranked highly. It is a co-educational, private, nonsectarian research university located in Philadelphia. It is a member of the Ivy League. According to U.S. News & World Reports it is ranked seventh in the nation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Pennsylvania

Penn is in a major city. I was convinced during our tour that it was a safe city. The presence...

I attended the University of Pennsylvania 1992-1996 and loved every minute of it! I was able to design my own degree focusing on areas of my particular interests and as such, was able to combine environmental engineering with anthropology to independently study and present a thesis on bioremediation in Arctic ecosystems and cultures.  The faculty was superb and not only cared about my progress toward my thesis but also about my other abilities in communications that would ensure success once I left the Penn campus.

Regarding non-class time, Penn is perfectly situated in Philadelphia which has...

I visited the campus and was very impressed. The school campus was great and everyone was very friendly. Both students and staff were very helpful in answering any questions i had and showing me around.  The school is a great size and i love the diversity of the student body. And to top it off its in a great location with everything at your fingertips. The night life is great and so is public transportation. Shopping and restaurants are all over the place. You will always have something to keep you busy, even if its just a stroll down the block. I prefer the city life over a college somewhere... review »

Reduced-price classes are offered at night through the College of General Studies. If you work on campus or have a parent that works on campus, you're likely to have your tuition paid for by the University. Awesome Anthropology/Archaeology Department. Classes usually have video/audio equipment; you can actually do a class report on Powerpoint (instead of presenting your reports via chiseled stone slabs or via cave-painting). I've gone to three universities, and I like this one the best!

Penn is a great school with a great reputation.

For some who are not accustomed to the city of Philidelphia it may seem like a bizzare mix, the history of philly and the ivy league scene but they mix quite well. Philadelphia is a city full of life and has such deep roots in the history of america. A great choice to any serious student looking for a great experience!
