The University of Michigan is one of the top public universities in the country. It has great programs for all areas of study but especially excels in business and engineering (for undergards). The Wolverine spirit takes over the school especially on Saturdays when there are home football games. The cost can be a bit daunting for out of state students, however, there are many opportunities for grants, scholarships etc. Living on campus usually only lasts one year as the campus is dominated by crappy student housing. Greek life is of medium strength with about 15% of all students participating in a wide variety of fraternities or sororities.
The University is split into 3 main areas: The Hill, Central Campus, and North campus. there are dorms on each with North campus specializing in engineering, music , and some artistic degrees. The city of Ann Arbor has more to it than the university but it has hard to see a clear separation as the city thrives off the finances of the university and its students/faculty. As undergraduate progresses through the university they will probably being exploring a bit farther off central campus and more into downtown Ann Arbor. There is a great supply of food, culture, and activities in Ann Arbor as it is a typical intellectual, liberal college town.
