University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Review

I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana, starting after I graduated high school in 1973 and graduating in 1977. I was looking for a school where I could major in some sort of business discipline and also where I could pursue my musical interests.

My parents made it clear to me that I would have to fund my own education as I was the most likely of the 6 children, of which I was the oldest, to graduate in 4 years of college. So, of course I was looking for a good price and a good time as well as a good education.

 I had previously been on campus for a couple of summer music programs and I really liked it. I didn't mind that it was a very large school. Plus, I had plenty of high school friends going there.

I got in to business comfortably as I was in the upper quarter of my high school class. Since then, the standards for the business school ahve risen to the upper 5%.

 The school at the time was the top undergraduate accountancy program in the country and it still is near the top. The school geared up students to pass the CPA exam and did an excellent job of that. Now, there is an experience requirement. But, then, I was able to graduate with my degree and a CPA certificate.

I also managed to play in the U of I jazz bands all 4 years and take applied music through the music school.

As a member of the Big 10, there are plenty of great opportunities to watch sports. At the time, neither football nor basketball was real good, but there have been improvements since then.

The U of I is a great school. I'm proud to say I'm a graduate of our fine State University.
