I am starting to get paranoid about sending things in the mail. I have these random stamps that do not have the postage marked on them. I start to second guess on them and end up putting two on the envelopes, so they don't get returned or lost.

I know prices increase, but the USPS has such a random approach to stamp hikes. It seems like I just bought stamps. Then I discover (not sure how) that they went up again. It couldn't be in January, and they couldn't drop me a note on that. It's a one cent hike in mid-May. Here it is June, and I'm scratching my head.

I did go check the USPS web site. The information is there after a good number of clicks. My cracked bell stamps are FOREVER stamps. They do not go out of date. Well, that's good. Could they perhaps write FOREVER on them? OOPS! They did. It's in fine print up the side. Good thing someone around here has better eyesite than I do.

They do sell postage at the USPS site, but I like to get my stamps at the grocery store. That's just much easier. Or it seems so until I find out prices went up - and don't know if my stamps are good or not.

We ran out of mailboxes in town, so the mail comes to boxes out at the street. This is convenient on some levels. The mail is right there. There aren't any locks though, and some of the neighbor kids like to take the mail out and throw it in the ditch or cram it in a neighbors box. I don't guess the USPS can help that, but it is a pain.

Today I got two business letters that had to be mailed back at my expense saying I still live here. Seems that two pieces of business mail were returned to sender saying my address was not valid. It has been valid for years. I am wondering why USPS told the bank that the address is bad. I hope the bank gets my return mail saying I live here, because the bank will give my money over to the government for unfound claims if not. Probably need to follow up on that with a call. Sigh. Life should not be that complicated.

The USPS folks are friendly here when I do go in. The web site does have a lot of information on the services and rates. I'm just not sure I want to do mail online. But I really do hate having to set aside time to figure out how much stamps are valued and also having to send mail to say I do, in fact, live here still. If it's that confusing in person, I hate to think about trying to deal with it online.

Guess who is cranky today?

Glad I'm not the only one who has those random pot luck stamps. I don't report them. I'm just mean back (-: Just kidding. The PO folks here are nice.

I too just put on a stamp and it had no amount:) Plus I reported a postal worker in the P.O. for being mean to me - really!

LOL. I still would like the amount on there (-: But pretty pictures. Naw. Don't need that.

I would buy blank white or black stamps if they would lower the price. I couldn't care less what is on a stamp I send to people and neither could they. That is what costs so much, making stupid stamps of people and stuff. I'm cranky too. lol.

I think we've had a lot of new mailmen lately. I usually miss when they come by. But when I do see someone, it always seems to be someone different. The UPS man is my favorite. It's always the same one, and I see him at the Texaco getting gas too (-:

Funny how things vary from region to region. I like USPS better than several of the private intities and I think the woman who delivers my mail is an angel. USPS works well in this neck of the woods.

I agree. Stuff like that drives me nuts!

I had the same problem with old stamps with no values on them. One day I took a sample of each one of them to the Post Office and they looked-up the original issue value. I had to buy twenty 1 cents stamps - what a waste of time :{

In response to Fardreamer's comment from Jun 28, 2008 at 9:24PM:

Same here. I used to write lots of letters. Now, I mostly email. Some relatives don't have Internet though, so I still have to write some snail mail letters. I love the speed of email. That's a nice plus.

I'm so glad that e-mail exists. I used to be a big fan of letter-writing; it sort of goes with being, um, a "man of letters," as it were. But with postage going up, up, and up each year, it's actually cheaper to do stuff via e-mail. Less fun than getting a hand-written letter, sure, but c'est la vie.

In response to MotherGrizzly's comment from Jun 28, 2008 at 8:05PM:

I don't know of any way. They are just country mailboxes on the street. The mailman doesn't have any keys.

MotherGrizzly wrote on Jun 28, 2008 at 8:05PM

Wow that is crazy that there isn't a way to secure the mail from kids fooling around with it. What if there's a check in there or something??!

They punk me pretty often. I stick on more than I need to be sure.

In response to joyjoy's comment from Jun 28, 2008 at 12:23PM:

Glad I figured out the forever thing. Maybe I should buy a lifetime supply (-: But they might dry out or something.

kid-kansas wrote on Jun 28, 2008 at 2:21PM

I wonder sometimes if they don't do all this on purpose.i think they bank on the fact that people have no idea which stamp is what, just so they waste a stamp to mail something. ;)

joyjoy wrote on Jun 28, 2008 at 12:23PM

I too wish the stamps showed the value. Except for the Forever stamps I never know how much they are.
