I've been a long time customer of United airlines.  I fly mostly Southwest, American and United, and I often fly United using a discounted "Friends and family" ticket through a friend who is employed there.

So for a recent trip to Hawaii with my parents and sister, I chose United because they had a nice price and the flight times worked out for us.

I had called the airline a few weeks earlier and requested sub-titled movies for the flight.  I was told that they have sub-titles on their longer flights.  So when we boarded, I asked the staff to make sure the sub-titles were on the movies.

Nope, no sub-titles.  That's for the international flights.  Sorry.

So we settled in our seats and discovered that it was a tight, tight seating arrangement.  I couldn't even open my laptop all the way.

We paid five dollars for a snack box to hold us over.  During the flight to Oahu, the staff was attentive and came around with water refills several times.

On the flight home, it was a different story.  The staff totally dropped the ball.  We saw them once when they came around to give out drinks.  They didn't come around again.  Around the fifth hour of the trip, I was quite thirsty, so I went to the back where I found three of them chatting.  I asked for water with ice, and the staff person dipped a cup into a container keeping other things cold and came up with half-melted ice.

My sister and I made another trip to get water for my parents.

Oh joy.

The week we arrived home, an article was printed in the Chicago Sun-times about the poor customer service by United and US Air--they rank on the very bottom of all the airlines for customer service.

That explains our flight home.  United, you have some changes to make to get me to come back as a regular customer.

Hi, I'm a bit behind - just wanted to stop by. I don't think I've ever traveled on UA! Jo

Hi, thank you so much for being my fan. I've actually been a fan of yours for a while and should have "made it official" before this. My trip home was okay but that trip from ORD to LAX was so bad that I ended up getting hives the next day and was too sick to do anything but spend my first day of vacation in bed! Curbside check-in computers were down and too many people were traveling and I don't know what all. As it so happens, we got a lot of attention on our flight but the carts took up so much space in the narrow aisle that no one could get by either to or back from the bathrooms and had to go to other bathrooms in the plane. It was a mess. Thank God I only travel a few times a year. The only reason I was nice about it all in my review was that we were lucky enough to have good attendants and the round trip only cost me five dollars. Thanks for a great review.

Customer service should always be a priority, especially now when prices are going up. They need us to fill that plane so they can still turn a profit!
