The Uniden multi-handset cordless telephone was a big disappointment.  It was recently rated in Consumer Reports as the best phone out there. But my experience was the exact opposite.  We purchased two sets in order to be sure there is always a phone within reach.  Each set comes with two phones, one answering machine base, and one base that simply acts as a charger. The phone has many features such as 5.8GHz extended range, call transfer between handsets, digital tapeless recording for the answering machine, and conversation recording. The problem I had with this phone is the reception. In the owners manual for the phone, it does state that you should avoid: microwaves, moisture, dust, low temps, mechanical vibration, shock, windows with street traffic, televisions, electronic equipment, and fluorescent lighting. I had searched and searched for a place in my home that fit such a requirement. Finally, I found two and hooked the phones up. But the reception is HORRIBLE once you walk more than thirty feet away from the base of the phone. It is like being on a corded phone with a long cord. I have moved the bases and rearranged furniture to try to help, but to no avail. Apparently, your home must be made with no walls, and very few electrical appliances in order to have a clear sound on the phone.
