This book tells the amazing history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition mainly through the vantage point of Meriwether Lewis, it's unique leader.  Ambrose leads us through the voyage with descriptive narration that is augmented by journal entries from Lewis's own diaries.  Ambrose also draws on correspondence from President Jefferson, the diaries of others on the trip, and many scholarly works.  Even though this is a history book, it isn't dry at all.  It almost reads like a story. — — What impressed me most was the descriptions of the American West at a time… read full review »

This is one of the best books I have ever read.  This is a history book every teanager in America should be required to read.  I have lived and traveled throughout Montana and now I want to go back and trave the trail and try to imagine what the Corps of Discovery endured on their incredible journey.  Again a must read for every American, to help appreciate what a great country we have and the courage it took to discover it. — … read full review »
