I was in an auto accident 7/2015, in which I had to be removed from the vehicle and hospitalized. I went to an orthopedic how prescribed ultram, it did not alleviate my pain, additionally, I had horrific side affects. This is a horrible drug that dies not work, especially for the back injury I suffered in the auto accident.

After working in the nursing field for many years I aggravated a lower back injury that I sustained as a teenager in a car accident. I was put on a slew of narcotic pain pills and found myself addicted. I stopped taking ALL narcotics but was left with lower back pain which I would rate at about a 7. I refused any type of narcotic my physician would try to prescribe and this is when the idea of Ultram arose. I was willing to try it out as long as it had no addictive accepts to it. The doctor said that this drug works close to how narcotics work so there was a low addictive quality to taking it. I decided to try it, I was suffering at the time and took it with caution. I found that if I took this medication before the pain was really bad, Ultram helped a great deal. So I kept a consistent level at all times. Now if I skipped a dosage, my pain would be terrible and it was harder to get my pain under control. I ended up using this medication for about 6 months and I must say since I took it everyday for months I ended up having minor withdrawals from this medication. My doctor tapered me off of it over a 2 week span which made it easier than going cold turkey. I must admit that minor withdrawals is a minimum side effect considering this pain pill helped with my back pain. I think Ultram should be prescribed before a narcotic to see if it will help in certain situations. It worked for my particular pain symptoms and along with physical therapy I no longer suffer with major back pain. I would take Ultram before I would a narcotic that's the bottom line.

Ive tried over the counter medications for pain and prescription medication also but Ultram (aka Tramadol) is the only pain medication that has truly helped me. I can work (waitressing on my feet all day) and function pretty normally thanks to this medicine!

I was prescribed this medication for my fibro and arthritis.  It did NOT work at all.  I felt that I was taking a placebo instead of utilizing a medication.  For me, taking Aleve was more effective at relieving the pain than this prescription drug and I don't get total relief from Aleve or any other OTC.

I have fibromyagia with moderate to severe pain most of the time, and the doctors do not want me to be on any addicting pain killers since I will be on them for a LONG time.  Ultram is finally the one medicine that can give me some relief from the pain.  I have tried the generic Tramadol ,twice, but it did not work for me at all I was taking 5 pills and I still had no relief.

I began taking Ultram (Tramadol) several months ago to alleviate moderate chronic back / neck pain that I have suffered from as a result of a car accident.  Over the counter medicines were not strong enough to help with my pain flare ups, and other prescription medicines like Vicodin and Percocet left me feeling tired, dizzy, confused, etc. After hearing from a friend that Tramadol (Ultram is the name brand of this drug) worked well for him, I went and got a prescription.  At first I was enamored with this medication as it really worked well on the pain.  It also BOOSTED my energy, and gave me a pleasant feeling of calm and euphoria.  However, after a few weeks, some serious side affects began to take hold.  I would have terrible headaches in the morning when I woke up - definitely related to the drug.  Constipation and bloating is horrible, and there are actue sexual side effects for me too (impotency). Maybe these side effects are less pronounced for others, but for me it was not worth it.  I stopped taking Ultram and went the the worst physical/mental withdrawals I could ever imaging for upwards of a week.  Anyone who is taking or thinking of taking this should be extremely cautious and know that there are some very serious risks here.

It does what it's supposed to. My doctor gave me these (and an anti-nausea) while I was recovering from Pancreatitis. They shot me up with morphine in the ER, and that wore off after 20 mins, these lasted about 4 hours every time, and though they took longer to get into my system orally, it was worth the wait. Note that they did not kill the pain ALL THE WAY (probably related to the condition), they did make it a lot more bearable than it would have been without. The only downsides, apart from knocking you unconcious, is the dizzy aspect. These put me an uncomfortable spin a few times, but it's a minor complaint with an otherwise great medicine. It does give a you a headache though, so if you can't deal with that don't take it.

Tramadol **Tramadol **is a non-addictive pain reliever.  It is widely used because of the fact that it is non-addictive. My Rheumatologist prescribed **Tramadol **for my Fibromyalgia pain.  I was having great success with Motrin but it was tearing up my stomach, so we decided to try **Tramadol**. I was to take **Tramadol **four times a day.  First of all, that's too many pills and I am way to busy to remember to take it until my pain was out of control. Right away, I noticed that **Tramadol **caused me to have a lot of headaches.  I NEVER have headaches but prescriptions tend to cause them in me.  Due to the fact that **Tramadol** has a seizure side effect, my Doctor and I chose to go back to Motrin. **Tramadol** did not make me tired nor did I have any other side effects and it did help my pain.  It's easy on your stomach and is not known to be addictive. I would recommend it to those who are suffering from mild pain, if they are not prone to headaches.

About 5 years ago I was put on Ultram for migraines. I started out taking 2- 37.5 mg Ultracet every morning. It worked on my migraines for about a year.  Maybe a little less. Then the migraines started to come back. The Dr upped my dose to 2 pills three times a day. Whenever I would go to the Dr's for something Ultram was always their answer. The pills started working less and less then I was switched over to 2- 50 mg three times a day. I started taking more of the 50 mg tabs more and more often. I hated it. I would take them more and more; then run out for a day or two and that would reset me back to normal.  It would just start over. It was a big cycle.  Apparently I am the 1 percent that gets addicted. Funny, I don't even have an addictivepersonality.  One of my best friends just stopped taking 50 mg Ultram and had lots of withdrawl symptoms. I didn't even know he was taking them until he took time off of work because of how sick he had gotten when he stopped. I haven't taken any pills for two weeks now. It has made me very clear headedI hope that i'm done with the with-drawls but from what i've heard from other people I have a ways to go.  SOMETHING INTERESTING. My friend had been taking six 50 mg tabs a day. 3 in the morning three in the evening. When I stopped I was easily taking 5 times more a day than he was. That is not the interesting part..... we had the exact same withdrawl symptoms and just as severe:  night sweats, nightmares, insomnia, diarriah, loss of appitite. erectile dysfunction (sorry guys).  But ladies I've heard from other reviews that taking ultram reduces your sex drive too. Any way I am nowhere through being in the clear. I still have to get past the sudden urges. What I did do is I called my Drs and told them all not to refill my ultram. then i told them why. I told them that i had become WAY to dependant on them and wanted it to stop.  So if there was or is a 12 step program for this that wold be my 1 and 2.  1st admit it 2nd call your dr and maybe even talk to your local pharmicist.  I could always use and would greatly appreciate any other advice from anyone who has gone through this to help me keep going through this.

I don't want to count Ultram completely out because it does have it's advantages.  I love that you don't get that funky tired feeling when taking this drug.  Although it is non-narcotic, it still requires a prescription from your doctor.  Before my primary physician received the detailed MRI and Myleogram from my Neurologist, He was unaware of the extent of my spinal cord injuries so He put me on Ultram.  It does take some of the pain away but not a lot.  At that time, it was better than having nothing to take.  Ultram does not fair well with individuals who have chronic pain.  It is a Mediocre drug.  In fact, there were stronger over-the-counter drugs available.  I can understand fully why the doctors prescribe this.  It is safer for them as well as their patients.  What's also nice about Ultram is that you can get it "time-released" meaning that it releases the medication different times throughout the day after you have your prescription.
