Ultra Games - NES - Metal Gear II: Snake's Revenge —

Although the Metal Gear wasn't perfect with famous for its bad English and ‘where the heck do I go now' syndrome, the game was still very compelling and it managed to sell like crazy. So you what that means; Solid Snake from the original Nintendo hit Metal Gear is back as the giant super weapon makes it return. Snake's Revenge here is Metal Gear II and this adventure game is now filled with both overhead and new platform levels so there are a lot of big chances to the original already.

The story here begins 3 years after the events of the first game when you just received some disturbing news that a new terrorist group has their hands on a new Metal Gear unit. Now Solid Snake and two other soldiers John Turner, and Nick Myer are going in to enemy territory to investigate. Now you would think that now that there are three of you on this mission that the game would be a lot easier but they only show up in a few story lines scenes and that's it.

The good news is you actually start out with a gun this time around but ammunition is still limited so it's a good idea not to get detected by enemy forces just like in the original. Other notable improvements are having visible some search lights on screen so you know what to avoid and the new side scrolling stages are a bit weird especially for a Metal Gear game but they are not over done and they also add some more action to the game. The game's graphics and music are much better now too thanks to the larger characters and sharper audio here too.

Although there are some cool improvements here the game is now it's missing some of the more cerebral item hunting and stealth techniques the original was famous for. Another odd thing about this title is its labeled Metal Gear II yet the real sequel was released on the import only MSX computer instead in Japan so die hard fans don't like this edition too much. For me the game was still very playable and I like the focus on the action this time but the story is not too interesting and I hate the constant item switching as well.
