Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon Review Summary
The open source Operating System Linux, like its cousin UNIX has spurred quite a few variations on the theme; Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon is one of the best according to our cadre of IT Professionals. One review states: “If you are a regular computer user (meaning you mainly use it for e-mail, surfing the web, and office documents), then in my opinion there is no reason in the world for you NOT to consider Ubuntu.” Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon, like all Linux OS software is free for the download and out-of-the-box offers a rich graphically-driven interface. Some of our reviews complained of little glitches on the OS, mostly hardware driver related, but the overall feeling is that the OS is well worth the effort and that Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon is better than Windows and even Macintosh. Every day computer user, a techie, a coder, a technology geek
As far as linux distributions go, Ubuntu is the most user friendly. If an experienced linux user sets up an Ubuntu computer for you, I believe you will love it. It contains fully functional internet, office, multimedia, and graphics software, and much more. Everything is free, and easy to install. But you must let an experienced linux user do the initial setup, because there are many pitfalls and difficulties. Specifically, you can encounter problems with wireless, screen resolution, and media playback. These problems can be fixed with a little bit of…

computer enthusiast, appreciative of good service, value conscious, married, daily computer user, an owner of a digital camera, into trying new things, a bargain hunter
Linux has come a long way. If you are a regular computer user (meaning you mainly use it for e-mail, surfing the web, and office documents), then in my opinion there is no reason in the world for you NOT to consider Ubuntu. It is secure, easy to use and does just about everything the average user needs it to do - and sometimes more than even Windows does! — — Ubuntu is updated every six months, and the community support is stellar. You can request a free CD-ROM and even run it "live" on your computer without installing it first, so you can try it out. — — Go on -…

a techie
I wrote elsewhere about my horrible experience with Vista Ultimate, but I have to also share my admiration for Ubuntu. After buying a new Dell that came preloaded with Vista, I gave up after a week of frustration (and yes, I am an IT consultant) and moved on to Ubuntu 7.10. I had installed Breezy Badger on an old Dell laptop I had lying around a few years ago and never had any problems with it, so I was not suprised that I fell in love with Gutsy Gibbon immediately. It's free, functional and easy to use. Anyone that has used an Apple in the past few years will immediately feel at home and…

PC owner, pc-user, a Network Administrator, a IT Professional, a Windows System Engineer, a technology geek, Every day computer user, comfortable with technology
Updates are often and very good, very easy to install, easy to use. Good both for desktops and servers. Ubuntu now coming pre-installed on Dell Computers and Ubuntu is built from Debian a good quaility Linux Base. — I'm also a fan of Gentoo but their dev team has been slow on updates. —…

always online, a techie, a coder, an early adopter
I was a little curious as to what thisUbuntu stuff was all about. for the last 10 years off and on i've used some kinda of Linux version. Mandrake, Suse, Fedora I've tried them all. I finally found one that i like. Its simple enough for my mom to use to check her email, burn a cd, and much more. Yet it's tech appealing enough for me to use everyday with out getting bored and wanting to blow my brain's out. A few weeks back i made the big jump into the deep end and migrated all my home PC's and how server to Linux. My laptop and desk are both now running ubuntu and my home server is running…

Linux is really the best operating system out there and Ubuntu is a great distribution to try out if you're going to use it. The ATI Proprietary Drivers for linux are lacking at the current point, so 3D Usage is not the best, but for all else, updates, applications, etc. Ubuntu is…
