Updates are often and very good, very easy to install, easy to use.  Good both for desktops and servers.  Ubuntu now coming pre-installed on Dell Computers and Ubuntu is built from Debian a good quaility Linux Base.

I'm also a fan of Gentoo but their dev team has been slow on updates.

Ubuntu is a Debian Linux Distro.

Apache runs better and with less "issues" under Linux.
I run Wine on mine to run MS Products, or use free, opensource, etc. apps, like OpenOffice, Firefox, etc.

What really depends is what exact roles are you going to fill with this OS, what specific applications you want run.

Yes, but what types of applications do you run on this OS. Is it 32 or 64-bit? Can I run Apache on it, how about Symantec and Microsoft products? Can I deploy this OS in my data center, recommend it to my small business clients?
