USAA Banking and Insurance are the best in every aspect, period. Regarding the insurance, they offer real discounts for everything from multiple car ownership to theft prevention. Additional discounts are always given when multiple types of policies are held, such as home owners and rental insurance. Their 24 hour live customer service is unbeatable. In addition, if you have USAA, be prepared for absolutely no phone calls from them trying to get you to buy more services. If you have the opportunity to acquire USAA I urge you to do so.
Just a couple of personal experiences to share with you here:
My husband and I were stationed over seas, and one of our vehicles became completely inoperable. Due to extenuating circumstances it took over three months to dispose of the vehicle properly. After contacting USAA to let them know we no longer needed insurance on the disposed vehicle, I happened to mention that the vehicle was in non-op condition for over three months time prior to disposal. Imagine my surprise when the agent told me that we were due a refund of our premiums for the entire time the car was non-op! When the check arrived in the mail I was shocked. Imagine and insurance company sending you a refund?
Next come my parents whom are new to USAA. My grandfather passed away, leaving his house to my father. My father found out that the insurance policy on the house had not been paid for several months, and upon contacting USAA was not only offered a chance to join USAA, but was allowed to pay the delinquent account to keep it current, instead of canceling it. Now my father is no dummy, and knowing a good thing when he sees it, seized the opportunity to purchase additional services from USAA. Starting with home insurance on his primary residence. Next was the personal vehicles. Needless to say a fair amount of paperwork was coming in from USAA. My mother was a little perturbed until she looked at the first statement they sent. The combined total of all the insurance they were paying for was almost less than half of what they were paying for with separate insurance companies before. And in addition to that, the advice that the USAA agents gave my parents on what was needed to rent the new property was great! My mother could not believe that every time she called them she spoke to a real knowledgeable person, and never left a message on a machine.
Lastly comes my sister, also new to USAA. My sister has a bad record for vehicle accidents, making her an insurance nightmare. Shortly after a divorce she found herself on her own again, with new expenses and old debts. She was pressured to find a way to cut costs. I suggested USAA and she got right on it. After insuring a brand new car, she was shocked to find the lowest price for insurance she had ever paid. Her rates were so low that she took my advice and for the first time got renters insurance on her apartment. She could not be more pleased, and for once has some peace of mind that every thing is covered. Way to go USAA!
