I was fortunate that USAA membership eligibility was expanded in the 1970s to non-military commissioned officers such as Foreign Service and Public Health Service Officers just as I joined the Foreign Service. For nearly 40 years now, USAA has provided me with exceptional coverage and service for all my insurance needs -- auto and property -- no matter where in the world I've been assigned. One military colleague once said to me that USAA coverage is so good that anyone eligible for membership would be crazy not to take advantage of it. He even suggested that officers should receive it automatically with their commissions!
