Well, I travel a lot so I like to have lots of information and games along with access to the internet wherever I go. I already reviewed some PDA software on movies that reside on my Treo 700P. Here is another program that is remarkably comprehensive, updated annually and is best of all.........FREE!
To down load this little gem, go to memoware.com and type in "CIA" in the search area. You will be taken to a page that lists a dozen or so versions of this program that all can be obtained for free. File size range from 5 to 10 MB depending on format, resolution and whether you want color or not. I use the Plucker version - so i had to download a free ware version of Plucker to read the CIA World Handbook. The easiest way out is to go with Palm Reader which I believe is already resident on all Palm OS PDA's out there. By the way, I would think that you would want to put this on your external card to keep the phones memory freed up.
As far as the program itself, my version has a color map of the country listing the main cities and rivers, along with a color rendition of the flag. Then comes a brief history and lots of statistics: size population, religion, age of the population, resources, treatys that the country is part of, ongoing conflicts, style of governmant, major infectious diseases, country origin, on and on and on. Yes, there are some odd statistics presented but this is for the CIA - it is used to get a brief overview of any country someone may be interested in.
I think it is a great resource for travel, kids homework - especially when on the road, etc or even to just read some additional information regarding a country you just heard about in the news.
Give it a try - it's worth all that you pay for it and more!
