US Airways Review Summary

US Airways has earned so-so ratings from Viewpoints members. Frequent fliers noted that US Airways flies good routes. Members also liked the fact that US Airways flights “are affordable”. Those who are appreciative of good service complained of delayed flights, bait and switch offers and “supreme incompetence” One of the "nicest" things said about this airline was by Steve9631, "It wasn't bad service, but it wasn't particularly good either." Robinofloxley doesn't hold back, "If you don't mind arriving late, getting poor service, and be charged nickel and dime fees for any excuse imaginable, then US Airways is the airline for you." Bottom line: Viewpoints members felt that US Airways overall service was average at best. Read what others say are the best airlines and worst airlines.

I fly within the USA no less than 15 times a year, which I think of as fairly frequently. When I lived overseas, I travelled by air even more frequently - including international travel. I think I have a pretty decent idea of what passes for decent service these days. That said, it must also be said...

After any long trip, almost everyone has at least one travel nightmare to tell. Fortunately we had only one, but it involved US Airways, as it always seems to when we travel. Because we frequently fly out of Charlotte, one of US Airways largest hubs, our international flight plans always involve flying...

US Airways announced yesterday that they were going to deliver a worse product to American travelers and to deceived their customers by charging unexpected, unavoidable nickel-and-dime fees on so much as ONE single piece of baggage. I know it's hard to believe, considering how unreliable and passenger hostile US Airways already is.

Travelers have an expectation that they'll need some clothing and toiletries whereever they go, so not bringing a suitcase isn't exactly a viable solution. People can grab a sandwich at a convenience store on the way to the airport to make up for cutbacks in in-flight...

Wow! I would have thougt that in order to win over a new customer to US Airways some sense of "service" would be shown to make their trip more pleasant- but I guess I must be naive. This airline is like being in a "Goulag"- nobody smiles, there is in a couple of cases a feeling of open hostility, and I've never such a sense of being raped by a customer service staff as I had with US Airways.

It starts at check in, where you are charged for checking in one bag- heaven help you if you have more- it cost me an additional $40. Once at my destination I found out that my work required me to return...

I had the occasion to fly from Seattle to Islip, NY on a business trip for a conference, and chose US Air because of their best by half pricing.  The experience was kinda benign.  It wasn't bad service, but it wasn't particularly good either.  Flight left a little late from Seattle, and Philadelphia, and Islip on the return, but nothing major.  My luggage showed up when I did.  Snacks on the flight were OK.  Like I said, I had no complaints, I was just a long way from thrilled.  I believe my lack of enthusiasm was due to the attitude that seemed to prevail throughout my interactions with...

I have to say this is the worst airline ever and I fly all the time. I always fly with Delta or Northwest(my favorite) but once I could not get a flight out of orlando so I chose US Airways they were not my first choice but hey what can you do. I was going to Binghamton, NY via PHI and there were trouble on all the legs of this trip. From MCO to PHI our flight was thirty minutes late getting in and 45 minutes late leaving. The plane was a A320 and the cabin was small and dirty it felt very gloomy inside, The seats were not comfortable at all and there was almost no leg room for the seats. The crew...

Let me start off by saying our flight was only a 20 minute flight from Phoenix to Tucson on a US Airways flight.  Doesn't sound as bad as doing a 2 hour drive.  Our flight was supposed to leave Phoenix at 136 pm.  Approximately 20 minutes before we were supposed to leave- when we were supposed to be boarding- is when the flight crew began  doing the checks- keep in mind this plane had just come from Tucson- the boarding agent came over the intercome and stated that there was something wrong with the plane, while they did not know what exactly is wrong with it maintenance was working on it. ...

If you don't mind arriving late, getting poor service, and be charged nickel and dime fees for any excuse imaginable, then US Airways is the airline for you.

They are a terrible airline with bad service. I fly them sometimes only because they have so many flights on the east coast. That means lots of chances for them to be late and lots of chances to leave you hanging.

You have a choice when you fly. Don't fly crappy airlines like US Airways!

Were were scheduled to fly out of Cancun when our flight was over an hour late because the crew hadn't shown up.  At the airport, they kept calling for our crew to report to duty.  Cancun is known for being a party place, so that made us rather nervous.

When we arrived at Phoenix (our layover), we were concerned about missing the next flight.  However, many flights had been delayed due to a thunderstorm, so we had hope that we might still make it.  We had to get off and go through customs, which was 1 1/2 miles away from the gate.  The representatives from U.S. Air said that if we missed...

We normally fly other airlines but we decided to save a few dollars and purchased tickets with US Air.  I saved sixty dollars but should have paid the difference.  Our plane originated in STL and we left on time.  We arrived late into Charlotte and had 3 minutes to run from one concourse to another.  After a 10 minute jog through an overcrowded airport we got to our gate only to see Volunteers needed flashing on the screen.  A Monday night flight that was overbooked.  I don't quite get that.  They spent over an hour trying to get people off the flight so we left late of course.  Once on... read full review »

I travel a lot for business and pleasure and I have never encountered a more frustrating company than US Air (in any field for that matter.) They make promises and then revoke them. I was given a ticket once as compensation for giving up my seat on an overbooked flight. I was assured that ticket was good for ANY US Air flight ANYTIME, ANYWHERE in the US. I clarified this multiple times with multiple workers at the counter. When I go to use the ticket there are restrictions on days, and flight costs. It was basically a $200 US Air gift card in the end - not what I was promised. And customer service... read full review »

There are many pros and cons to flying US Airways.

It's worth the price. Unless of course you have to check a bag because then you have to pay to check that bag. And because of this you get the people who carry on their 2 allowed bags that are as big as they can possibly be carried on. And if you are in the last zone to load you get the remark from the rude airline employee that you will have the "check that bag".

You no longer get a drink or snack for free. If I'm not mistaken, you can now only purchase drinks.. no snakcs. However, you can carry on anything you have bought from inside the airport...

I took Us Airways to Europe this summer I got a great fare ... but.

On the outbound flight both our flights where delayed and our connection in PHL was very very hectic (had to run to make it).

On the return again the first flight was delayed and the second flight was not only delayed but they also had to make a stop to refuel (the plane was to heavy to depart with a full fuel tank.)  I ended up get in at 1 am instead of 9pm.

On top of everything only one of our suitcases made it the other we didn't get until the next day.

We often end up flying US Airways, as they have a lot of routes and typically have good prices. Additionally, they have a lot of partners that allow for ways to build up mileage. We used to love connecting in Pittsburgh, but that has greatly diminished as a hub city. Now we often connect in Philadelphia, and regularly have trouble there. Our luggage has been lost multiple times, and delays are very common there. As a result, unless the route avoids Philly or is significantly less expensive than an alternative, we typically avoid US Air.

I realize that most airlines are a terrible service now days, and I wouldn't use them if there was a feasible alternative for long distance quick travel. I find your business disgusting, and have complete confidence you'd go out of business if the government didn't prevent it.

I have particular venom for US Airways. We just flew on US Air from Seatac to Phoenix. We booked the flight through an agent who said "seat preference" was as good as having the seat actually reserved. Instead we ended up in the very very back. I was mildly annoyed when we had to pay for each bag we checked, even the first....
