Incompetent, unprofessional, and untrained.

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

We were in the USAirways check-in line at SFO 1 1/2 hours before take-off.  At the 1-hour mark, with maybe 3 people in line ahead of us, the agent simply closed the line and told us to go to the end of the other line, with about 150 people in line.  No sympathy from the people behind that counter.  We made it to the gate with about 10 minutes to go, but our seats (and the seats of about 20 people from the same closed line) had been given to other passengers, and the door was closed.  The USAirways folks could do nothing but roll us from standby to standby; incapable of thinking about routing us some other way, or through some other airline.  6 flights later, the gate agent admitted that there was simply no way we were ever going to get on any flight that way, that the best that they could do was to reschedule our trip for 3 days later.  We cancelled the trip, to reschedule later on another airline.  Now it's 3 days later, and we don't have our luggage, just a 2-day-old promise that it will get delivered "this evening" (2 days ago).  No training, no systems, no supervisors with any training or authority.  Simply our mistake for booking USAirways.  For a couple bucks more, we could have flown United or another airline with the systems, including people, in place to do it right.
