UPS Stores —

Although I seldom need to ship anything it is nice to know that I can get it done by a caring and knowledgeable staff. From boxes to foam peanuts they have it all right there. The one occasion that stands out for me was when my son graduated high school this past summer.

    The Service

My son had made a bookshelf and a cd rack in school and wanted to ship them to his mother on the east coast. He was moving there and could not take them with him on the train without it costing an arm and a leg. So we ventured out to our local UPS Store. The lady behind the counter greeted us as we walked in with a smile and asked how she could help us.

We explained what we needed and where it was going and asked her for advice on the best way to handle it. She came around the counter and measured both pieces and grabbed 2 boxes for us. She let us know that the cd case needed to have the base off for the best result(it had a swivel base) and a smaller box as well(which saved us about $3). I looked in my truck for a screwdriver and didn't have one to fit, no problem as she handed me a tool kit with the tools I needed.

She grabbed a roll of bubble wrap and even helped us wrap it up and then secure it with tape. Then she grabbed a bag of peanuts and helped us fill the box in order to protect the bookshelf and the cd tower. She went out of her way to make sure it was packed properly and secured as to avoid damage.

We didn't have to buy the whole roll of bubble wrap, nor did we have to pay for the whole bag of peanuts. Bet you don 't get that kind of service at the Post Office! After we had everything packed and taped she had us fill out the shipping papers. Then she weighed it all and I paid our bill. Only being charged for what we used probably saved us another $12 or maybe more.

This was a big surprise for me as I had never had that type of service at Fedex or the Post Office. This lady went out of her way to make sure everything was as it needed to be. She could have just handed us 2 boxes, a roll of bubble wrap, a roll of tape and a bag of peanuts then charged us for it all.  As I am sure many places would do in just such a case. As for loaning tools to use in the store, I never had any store offer me that.

    Bottom Line

Whether you just need to ship a package or need supplies, I highly recommend UPS for all your shipping needs. After this experience at my local UPS I made a phone call to UPS and told them they had a customer for life. I made sure I told them the ladies name (I had it on my receipt) and that she should be made a manager as she was not only knowledgeable but a person with great people skills.

If more businesses had people like her in their front lines of customer care they would prosper for it. I realize that most people just do what they have to at their jobs and it is a real pleasure for me when someone goes that extra step for a customer. People like this lady should receive recognition for their performance. She was the only one there so she wasn't trying to impress a boss, she just enjoyed her job and working with people.

By her actions of saving us money, her attitude and knowledge of packing things she was able to make me not only a satisfied customer, but a customer for life. I have used that very same UPS store several times since and had the same experience each time. I have met 3 of their employees so far and each one has had the same great attitude.

BTW- Both boxes arrived when they were supposed to and neither item was damaged, although one box looked a little rough. Thanks to the knowledge of the staff at UPS and making sure we packed it properly.

Ty ;) Yes a person takes a job and most times will only do what they have too in order to get a paycheck. Then they wonder why they can't get a good referrence when they change jobs.... Thanks for reading ;-) Ron

Great review you are so detailed! Yes I have to agree good customer service is hard to come by these days. I never understood why people work but don't want to do their job well. Quite frankly after years of working in customer service I always extended myself. It is always appreciated when good customer service skills are shown since they are rare these days.
