About Two Moon Junction

This movie was released in 1998 and the DVD came out in 2000. It runs 106 minutes. The director is Zalman King who also directed Wild Orchid and produced Nine 1/2 Weeks among many other similar movies.

The main stars are Richard Tyson (Perry) as the bad boy carny and Sherilyn Fenn (April) as the good southern girl torn between what her family wants her to do and her passion for Perry. There are a host of well known actors like Louise Fletcher, Kristy McNichol, Burl Ives and even the late Hervé Villechaiz. However, the two main stars make the movie and it all centers around conflict.

The Plot

April is a sweet, rich southern girl about to be married to an equally sweet southern boy. When the carnival comes to town, April spots Perry, a drifter working the rides and breaking down the machinery. The sexual attraction is immediate but April denies her lust and continues planning her wedding. However, this lust is too strong to deny for long and, soon, the good girl and the bad boy are having a sexy, secret affair.

Her grandmother (Lousie Fletcher) finds out about the affair and orders April to break it off immediately. The marriage will go on whether April wants it to or not.

April tries to do what her family wants but it never seems to work out as she battles her attraction for Perry. As her wedding day approaches, April has a huge decision to make and Perry can only wait to see what she will decide. The ending is exactly how I would have ended the movie - and is actually quite a good twist.

My Thoughts

This movie is by no means a real thinker. It's erotic, yet not soft porn. There is no nudity on the part of Richard Tyson but there is on the part of Sherilyn Fenn who seems to be naked an awful lot in the film. But there are no gratuitous, offensive scenes despite that. The scenes are actually really sexy and the plot, as thin as it is, does leave the viewer wondering what April will do and whether lust will win or whether doing the "right thing" and marrying a guy she doesn't really love will.

I think Richard Tyson, Louise Fletcher, Kristy McNichol, and Burl Ives all act superbly in this film. Sherilyn Fenn does a passable job but her innocence disappears so quickly, it's hard to believe she was ever really all THAT innocent to begin with.

I enjoy this movie every time I see it, probably because I like the idea of the good girl/bad girl dual role and because, let's face it, Richard Tyson at the time was hot and he had his character down perfectly.

This movie isn't well known for its wonderful acting or dialogue but it is a light, erotic film with a plot that moves the movie forward and leaves the viewer wondering what will happen next. I personally love the movie but I am a fan of offbeat, somewhat quirky films such as this.

My Viewpoint

This is one of those Saturday night, nothing's good on TV, I feel like watching something sexy movies that I assume more women then men will enjoy. My husband watches it with me but I don't think he likes it. I think he likes that I like it, if you know what I mean. Haha. In all, a sexy - but not too revealing or pornographic - movie that will captivate some and leave others rolling their eyes. For me, it's a 4 star movie. It captivates me.
