Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1) Review Summary

Searching for your next fantasy fix after reading the last of the Harry Potter books? Seems author Stephanie Meyer just might have concocted the cure for what ails ya with Twilight. This first in the Twilight series of novels is classic romance with a healthy dose of fantasy. The heroine, Bella, has moved from Arizona to Washington state to live with her father. In classic style, she is immediately shown lots of attention by the local boys, but desires none of them. Instead, she is drawn to Edward, the guy sitting next to her in class and the one dude who seems repulsed by her. Edward has a dirty little secret, however. He's a vampire, which is not quite the same as "he's a stripper". Bella's attraction persists, even when she learns his secret, and ultimately, they fall in love. This is the story of that love and unique hazards is poses. Readers are drawn into this fantasy world of forbidden love because "Edward and Bella are this centuries Romeo and Juliet!" and possibly because vampires are intrinsically erotic creatures. Not all readers are so enthralled, however, as one reviewer put it, "Meyer's prose is decent, but her plot and character development are so atrocious that even the most brilliantly-worded sentences couldn't save them." The vast majority, though, felt "The interaction between Bella and Edward is electric, it jumps off the page" In either case, "Twilight is a young adult book and is very clean. There is no swearing and no sex whatsoever but it is about vampires, blood desire, and topics more appropriate for older kids so I'd say this one is for the over 16 crowd.". By a huge majority, Twilight comes highly recommended.

Sacrificing her own happiness for her mother, Bella moved to Forks to stay with Charlie, her dad.  First day in a new school is hard enough without Edwards gaze.  She was fascinated by him immediately, and he was fascinated by her as well.  So Edward turns out to be a vampire.  That should...

Meyer's prose is decent, but her plot and character development are so atrocious that even the most brilliantly-worded sentences couldn't save them. Twilight's main character, Bella Swan, lacks any personality and gives the reader little motivation to like her. In fact, Bella's role in the novel seems... read full review »

While admittedly this book was an easy read (I finished in less than 2 days, with midterms approaching), that can be attributed to immature writing and lack of plot. The amount of description in the book is tedious- I do not find it necessary to know every detail of Bella's day, and please spare me another descripition of Edward's perfect appearance.  The entire novel reminded me of one long descriptive essay- the kind 12 year olds are assigned to teach them how to use adjectives in writing.  The romance was trite and did expand beyond Bella's love of Edward's looks and Edward's lust for Bella's... read full review »

After obtaining Stephanie Meyer's much-vaunted novel "Twilight" at the urgings of multiple friends and favourable reviews, I dived into it expecting to be beguiled by fantastic characters; clever plots and amazing climaxes.

However, not unlike the women in gay porn films, they never came.

"Twilight"'s plot comes straight out of a Harlequin romance, complete with sappy descriptions like "marbled chest," "ivory skin," and cringe-worthy similes such as "Before you, my life was like a moonless night". However, unlike a Harlequin romance, "Twilight" doesn't deliver the expected steamy love scenes characteristic...

A few months ago my preacher spoke of a series of books that was taking our nation's young people by storm and it was in our very own Christian school.  He spoke of vampires and teenagers and love and everything else that would beguile you.  I wasn't sure what series he was referencing but knew that my best friend's 15-year-old was also reading the series.  So, what happens when stars get misaligned and two galaxies collide in the universe?  You get a love story that teens are raving about and adults can't get enough of either!

I was drawn into the hype after the book Twilight by Stephenie...

I must admit, Twilight is one of those literary phenomenons I just don't get (kind of like Dan Brown, except his books have too much plot, whereas Twilight, well, read on...). I borrow the first book from the library shortly before book four came out. I had zero expectations and only knew they had been popular. No need to summarize the plot, which everyone knows by now. Instead let's talk about the troubling relationships between the teen Bella and the much older Edward, which borders on abusive. He treats her more like a daughter, ordering her around and telling her what to do, but she views it... read full review »

Edward and Bella, this centuries Romeo and Juliet! When I first heard about this book I honestly thought, "Ha, vampires in today's day in age, how silly."  After I finished reading it in one afternoon, my thoughts became, OH MY GOSH, when do I get to read the next ones! My mind was completely captivated throughout the entire story.  Bella's emotions became my emotions, Edwards worries, became my worries and the fears throughout the entirety of the story line had me crying and on the edge of my seat until I reached the next pages.  I would HIGHLY recommend reading this book and all of the others... read full review »

Twilight is a story about Bella, a clumsy, average-looking high school girl, and Edward, an irresistably handsome and charming vampire who "falls in love" with her.  I don't like the book because I felt the love between them was shallow and based on physical desires (he "falls in love" with her because she "smells so good" and the only reason he doesn't suck her dry is so he can smell her as long as possible), Bella is a weak, sometimes annoying character who's clumsiness is supposed to make Edward's physical strength that much more appealing, and Edward is too perfect to be believable (gorgeous,... read full review »

I picked up "Twilight" after my cousin mentioned that it was being passed around her circle of friends like wild fire. I'm a devout reader, and a lover of all varieties of fiction, from historical fiction to the Harry Potter series. I was excited about reading a book that people were finding difficult to "put down" - I LOVE to find a plot/characters that stay with me long after the book is finished. So, when I started it I was prepared to be an enthusiastic supporter of the author and the series.
Not so.
I feel like "Twilight" is a distressing departure from modern feminist literature. And ironically,...

A snippet!: I can tell you all about Twilight in just a few sentences. I'll even break it down by page numbers for you. Ready? Okay. Pages 1 thru 200: Bella, the leading lady in Twilight, moves from Arizona to rainy Washington. Bella goes to school. Bella meets Edward (the super sexy vampire) and thinks he is mean. Edward does a string of "supernatural" behaviors and Bella becomes suspicious. Bella discovers Edward is a vampire. Pages 200-350: Bella and Edward argue back and forth about how madly in love they are and the dangers of their love. Pages 350-498: Surprise, surprise. Bella's life is... read full review »

This novel made me feel like a teenager again as I read it, the old heightened emotions recreating themselves within me as I followed the teen characters' melodramas. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and could hardly put it down, but considering the primary audience is under 18, I had to ask myself, would I want my teenagers reading this? The answer is a definite no. The story romanticizes and justifies a kind of love that is 100% self-sacrificing - Bella is perfectly willing to let Edward kill her if that means she can be with him for a few seconds - but yet this all-encompassing love, as far as... read full review »

Twilight

This book is amazing. Prior to reading Twilight, I had heard from many friends that they could not put this book down and now I know why. I also see that it appeals to people of all ages from preteen to the elderly, (my mother loved it!). It is also appropriate for all of these age groups as there is no swearing, no sex and nothing too violent.

This book follows the story of a teen named Bella who recently goes back to Forks, WA to live with her Dad. She notices a group of outcasts at the school and falls in love with one, named Edward. She comes to find out that they are part of a Vampire...

I don't normally enjoy fiction books, and have never been a fan of fantasy.  HOWEVER, I absolutely love the book, Twilight.  I just finished reading this book, and although it's a long one, it only took me about three days to complete.  I literally couldn't read this book fast enough.

Although I had heard that Twilight was a book for young adults, I was thrilled with it.  I think it is for readers of all ages, although it does make good reading for teens because there is no foul language, no sex, no drug use, and very little violence.  That's right!  A vampire book with little violence. ...

The first book in the Twilight series is absolute garbage.  How it ever got published is beyond me.  It read like a teenage fan-fic and the first 3/4 of it almost put me to sleep.  It's amazing how anyone could have liked this book; to me it was utter slop.  Young readers should be setting their eyes on better reads than this.  All in all, don't waste your time or money.  There's better out there.

I'll admit it. I'm stubborn. I heard a few mixed reviews about 'Twilight' and was still very curious. I saw the Posters all over Wamart advertising the new movie and thought it was for the kiddies. Typically I'm not very happy to be bored but because of my boredom I gave Twilight a try.

After about page 3 I was hooked and couldn't set the book down. You know one of those reads where you're trying to cook dinner and read the book at the same time? I was running into walls, stepping on my cats, and not sleeping. Thankfully the book is only around 500 pages long so I was able to devour it in just a...
