For those who think bed time stories are the way to go you may go ahead and read about "Dick and Jane" and ignore this rather than making futile attempts to defend this shallow book called Twilight.

There was an aritcle posted in the McClatc hy-Tribune that called the movie "a sappy and unhealthy romance" The plot goes: girl meets boy, girl and boy fall in love girl turns into damsel in distress and prince charming saves the day. All it needs is a talking Lorax with and extra foot and you have a disney movie. This plot is a very small part of the book the rest is just fluff exchanged between boy and girl.

From the same article: "I hate that Bella is a clumsy, passive heroine who constantly has to be saved by Edward, a gorgeous, perfect vampire. Although the story is set in modern times, it reads like a classsic Victorian novel where the guy has to watch the woman's every move." Edward is believed to be "chivalrous" but in all actuality he is constantly saying how easily he could kill her and how tempting it is while he bans her from any life from him. Bella takes it like an abuse victim because it's "for her own good." Instead she happily plays the damsel in distress because her hot BF wants her to.

If you want to read a romance some suggestions are "Someone Like You", "This Lullaby" (Sarah Dressen); "Pride and Prejudice" (Jane Austen); or  "The Notebook" (Nicholas Sparks). If you are looking for a Fantasy (Since That's what everybody claims Twilight to be) I would strongly suggest anything written by Brandon Sanderson. There's lots of magic and big accomplishments (for instance, overthrowing and evil empire with a crew of about 10 people) and a touch of humor.

All in all whether or not this is a fantasy book is for those shallow teen girls that are so desperate for a relationship that they will take abuse. If you can make conversation with at teddy bear you can find use for this book (besides starting a fire)
