Twilight - The Movie Review Summary

Reviewers are happy that Twilight "lives up to the standard of the book" and feel it's like "watching the book come to life." Based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer, the film version of Twilight is about a girl who doesn't run with the in crowd to begin with, then furthers it by falling in love with a vampire. Fans recognize the "unusual love story" in Twilight and even make comparisons to Romeo & Juliet. In addition, they feel the action and beautiful scenery in the film make the movie really stand out, along with the acting of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the starring roles, calling their first kiss "exquisite" and the relationship "intense." We are cautioned that it's not a typical vampire film, as we won't see much "biting and fangs and such." Although this is a film that seems aimed at the teenage demographic, adults are enjoying it as well, with some even suggesting whole families should go see the film. Fans are left with hope that there will be a Twilight sequel, noting how the current film "set the stage well for the next movie." Not everyone was completely enchanted with the film, though, feeling "the hype could not make up for the predictable plotline, static characters, and cliched dialogue."

I have a wide range of tastes in movies and books, and thought I had gotten over my vampire stage, until all the hype about Twilight, the Movie.  My college aged son recently was home for a visit and we watched it together, and then I watched it again with my teenage daughter. I guess I have already...

I wasn't on the edge of my seat and I didn't get glued to the TV until an hour into the movie.  Okay, there was a lot of hype about the release of the movie Twilight on DVD.  I was at Walmart Friday evening for the Twilight at Midnight extravaganza just to get my copy because I was afraid it would... review »

I have been hearing all the buzz about Twilight, both the movie and the book and decided I needed to check this out for myself.  I have not read the book, so I feel that my review of the movie is completely unbiased.

My local drive-in movie theater was playing Twilight and Four Christmases so I thought now would be a good time to see two movies that I had been wanting to see for the price of one.

I have to say that I am both pleased and disappointed by the movie Twilight.  I am pleased because it is an excellent storyline.  The love story that the movie focuses on is a very sweet, protective...

I thought that the Twilight BOOK was one of the best fiction books I had ever read.  (read review here)  I was unable to see the release of the Twilight MOVIE at theaters, so I was anxious for it to come out on DVD.

As is often the case, the movie just didn't live up to the book.  Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the movie and would watch it more than once, but it just didn't have the same intensity as the book did.  I felt that the story was rushed, and there wasn't enough time given to the growth of the relationship between Bella & Edward.  When I read the book, I was overcome by the intense...

OMG.

This movie was so awesome!

I could just leave it at that, but I'm going to tell you just why Twilight is so awesome, and why it just made $69 million on its opening weekend.

1. It remains faithful to the novel, while streamlining the narrative and imposing a more straightforward dramatic structure on the story. For instance, the bad vampires don't just show up 3/4 of the way through, as in the book. Their mayhem reinforces Edward's dangerousness and sets up the film's climax.

2. It is very well cast. While it was crucial for the leads to have chemistry and be right for their parts, and Kristen...

Take one: Twilight the movie is a page-by-page enactment of Stephenie Meyer's popular novel. Really. You could see the movie and skip reading the book!

Take two: If you read my review of Twilight the book, then you already know how I feel about this melodramatic vampire story. (I gave the book two stars.) You might be wondering why I decided the Twilight movie deserves a better review than the book. It's rare when I find a movie that I enjoy more than its literary counterpart. Does anyone else remember the silverscreen disaster that was The DaVinci Code? Yeah, ouch.

Well, here's why the movie Twilight...

When I read the Twilight books I couldn't put them down, so when I heard a movie was coming out, I was very excited. To make a long story short, I was extremely disappointed after seeing the movie. In my opinion the actors weren't like the characters in the book at all. Edward seemed extremely awkward, while Bella was a little too hard to me. The movie moved a lot faster than the book, which is understandable, but it made the feeling a little different. It's one thing if the movie doesn't follow the book very well, but I personally thought it was just a bad movie. If someone hadn't read the books...

After I read the book, I could barely wait to watch the movie. While it wasn't as good as the book, but, really, what movie is EVER as good as the book?, it was still wonderful!!!

Seeing the characters from the page come to life on the screen was exciting. I think the selection of actors fit PERFECTLY! While I had seen previews for the movie, at the time I had no intention of reading the books, because I thought they were intended for teens, but, thankfully, my husbands cousing talked me into reading the books. But, while seeing the previews, I hadn't really paid much attention to what the characters...

The movie Twlight was good but could have been better.    I am wondering if it was the director or screenwriter that didn't bring the movie to its best.  Or maybe there was just too much hype about the movie.

Anyway, the parts  I really enjoyed was how Edward and Bella met in school, the first kiss, the baseball scene and the fight with Edward and James.  That was really good.

Scenes I thought either went too fast, left out from the book or just not enough  was Bella's first time in school, when Bella met Edward's family for the first time, the meadow, the story about Carlisle,...

After reading the books and becoming infatuated with the characters in the book I was nervous about watching the movie. I know books are never like the movies and most times fall flat.  Unfortunately Twilight the movie did. I was not happy with most of the people chosen to play the characters. I wouldn't have picked Kristen as Bella. She doesn't look fragile enough, maybe it is because she is new to the hollywood thing but I didn't feel like she connected with the character enough. I could tell she was playing a part, not being the person. Hopefully by the second movie she will have a better way...

If this movie didn't have the book standing behind it, it would have flopped in the box offices with out a doubt.  I hate to write bad reviews but I think that Hardwicke absolutely did not do any justice to the novel and got away like a bandit with the large gross of money from loyal Twilight fans.

I am honestly happy that they have already decided to make the new director that of "The Golden Compass" and "About a Boy" fame, I have yet to be extremely disappointed with any of Wietz work.

But back to Hardwick's interpretation of the novel; Some things she got right - for the most part - she did...

I love, love, love Twilight.  I have read all 4 books before going to see the movie when it was released!  I loved, loved, loved the movie.  The movie was different from the book and the books are way better - as with most movies.  The movie company Summit did a great job staying true to the book, but there were some parts of the movie that was added, probably just to make it more "adventurous".  Must see it - but must read the books too.  The next movie (and book) New Moon should be out soon and I hope they do that well too!

Like most in my age group, I am a huge Harry Potter fan.  So when a good friend of mine told me about the Twilight series, I had to read it.  I enjoyed the book, though not at first.  It took me a while to get past Stephenie Myers' writing style, but I finished the whole series in two weeks' time.  When I heard that a movie was coming out based on the first novel, a month after I'd heard about the books, I was ecstatic.  Something for me to do while I await the next Harry Potter film!

I waited a couple weeks for the fanatic crowd to make their rounds before I went to see the movie.  I don't...

First, I'll mention I am not the target audience -- I'm a girl in my late 20's, I'm guessing it's aimed mostly at teens. But, for the sake of this review, feel free to assume me a common teenage girl, because I acted as such with my twilight addicition. I love the books. I was eagerly anticipating the movie, so much so that I annoyed everyone within a 10 foot radius, and whoever made themselves reachable by phone. I've been counting down the days, and when it finally came, I woke up like a 5 years old on Christmas.

I feel though, that I might be a bit biased. For someone who hasn't read the books,...

I know books to movies generally have differences so I went into the Twilight movie with low expectations.  After I saw the movie I think I should have set my expectations a little bit lower.

I loved the books and felt they could have done so much more with this movie.  The acting wasn't wonderful but honestly I think this could have been overlooked if the director and screenwriter would have done a better jobs.  Instead of the screenwriter condensing the book into the movie with logical plot lines she basically just rewrote the story.  She also payed little attention to details which would...
