Twelve Sharp  —

Stephanie Plum is a borderline bounty hunter for a borderline bail bondsman. This is her twelfth caper by Janet Evanovich, thus the title. She shares her hunt with an assortment of misfits and miscreants. In this episode Stephanie is being stalked by a mysterious woman in black who carries a Glock and wants to do her in. Her object of sexual daydreams is Carlos Manoso, known as Ranger on the street.

The woman is his wife - or so she says. Carlos has had his persona stolen by another and is now on the run from the law and trying to find a daughter who he has never been with and has been kidnapped. Stephanie becomes a fantasy for this impostor as well. The mystery is in who this impostor is and how to find him before the child is harmed or Stephanie captured to be the imposter's's love object.

As in all good who-dun-its, the end is okay and the protagonists end well. This is a light and irreverent read. It has a lot of sexual innuendo in it and is not for those whose purity of mind decries such blathering. I read it as a break from a couple of intense novels and it did the job.
