Tax time isn't really something we look forward to as we've basically owed at least one entity every year for the past few years. So anything that makes the process a little smoother is generally most helpful. For several years we had gone to an accountant, which is helpful since they are able to walk through every step with you and ensure you are getting all deductions you can. Turbo Tax is great for home tax preparation.  It prompts you through all of the sections of your tax return, and makes helpful suggestions along the way.  Making entries is easy, and there is all kinds of online tax support available.  Everything is priced separately--federal return, state return, e-file, etc.--so it can add up.   Best bet is to try to find the best price on the software package with the most add-ons, and then purchase the extras while you prepare.  Still, you have to have some knowledge of what you will need to prepare your taxes, but the software will help you figure that...
