I've taken Tums for years, starting when I first had heartburn. That was during pregnancy. I needed something that would be safe and would be easy to take. Tums fit the bill. I've never had the severe kind of trouble that requires a stronger over the counter regimine, or a prescribed medication. For me, Tums is a simple solution to occasional heartburn. I have found the "Smooth" variety to be pleasant. There is no strong taste or irritation to the mouth or throat. The tropical flavor almost makes Tums Smooth Tropical seem like a treat rather than a treatment. The 60 pack is easy to carry in the car or have in the kitchen or bathroom. I have never needed more than one Tums to reduce the heartburn I experience. Tums Smooth Tropical are available everywhere, in supermarkets, pharmacies and even mass retailers. It is a familiar trusted product that any adult can take without it interfering with medications.

I've always trusted Tums to take care of that indigestion feeling. So when the "smoothie" flavor came out, I was interested to try it. Tums don't tend to taste awful, but there's always room for improvement. So when I tried the first Smoothie-flavored Tums, I was expecting an improvement on the taste. I'm not really a fan of the taste, but I've tasted worse. However, from now on I'm sticking to regular, tasteless Tums.  From my experience, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." That's why I'm curious about the decision to make such a flavor. Tums didn't taste perfect, but this is actually the opposite of improvement. The fruity taste isn't even appetizing. If this type were cheaper than regular Tums, I would have no problem purchasing them in place of the originals. Despite my complaining about the taste, they still get the job done. It's so nice to feel better after having heartburn or indigestion. So as long as I have them, I'll use them, but will probably not purchase again!

Tums are great tasting and I used to use them for stomach acid while I was pregnant until I was talking to a pharmacist about it.  He said that Tums are actually bad for stomach acid because of the process they use to get rid of acid.  He said that it causes a downward cycle because the stomach actually produces more acid to overcome the basic environment.  I have had dramatically better success with Pepcid AC than tums.  I know some people that swear they will always use tums and eat them like candy, but they keep needing more and more.  When I switched to pepcid AC and took one tablet every day, my pregnancy went much better and I no longer had issues with stomach acid for the remainder.  For my next two pregnancies I just skipped the tums and went straight to Pepcid AC and never had any acid problems at all.  Even though I don't take any antacids unless I'm pregnant, if I ever need to, I won't choose Tums.

Over the years I have used many different kinds of heartburn medication.  I keep going back to tums.  My newest favorite is tums smoothies.  They really make heartburn medication a delight to take.  Not like medicine at all.  It is also very economical and includes the calcium that your body needs also.  It works fast and is reliable.  I started taking tums when I was pregnant and could not take many types of medications.  I allways had severe heartburn.  Tums was a life saver then and 25 years later it is still as standard for my house hold.  We even make sure we pack it when we go out of town.  It is conveinent to travel with.  I also like to different size packaging.  The samller bottle allows me to carry Tums whereever I go.  The tropical flavors are a delight.  They are very smooth and not offensive.  It is easy to swallow because the flavor is not offensive.  I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has heartburn!
