Troy Review

Peter O'Toole, Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger and Eric Bana star in this epic movie. Intense and drawn in by the art of war this is a retelling worthy of The Iliad.

Paris (Orlando Bloom), son of the King of Troy, and Helen (of Troy previously Helen of Sparta), fall in love and thus set off a battle between two recently peaceful lands. The war is for love, honor and a great city.

The Greek Warrior Achilles (Brad Pitt) is introduced into this movie as a man who will fight for his people but not for a King he never claimed. Achilles fights for Sparta and the two princes fight for Troy. It's a war that you will actually route for both sides.

Although Prince Paris started the war he could not finish it in hand to hand combat with a sword and his older brother Prince Hector came to his rescue. Then, after the tragic death of Achilles' cousin, Prince Hector must face off with Achilles for vengeance, for death.

The Spartans were no match for the Trojans and their impenetrable walls. The idea of the wooden horse came from one of Sparta's men who was sitting around a campfire carving a wooden horse for his baby. The army of Troy came down and saw that all the ships were gone and a wooden horse remained. They took the wooden horse into their city walls believing it was a gift from the Gods. Little did they know the Spartans laid in wait and when night came they snuck out of the wooden horse, let their soldiers in and slaughtered the Trojans. In the end Prince Paris was more lethal with a bow than with a sword and Achilles was dropped by an arrow which pierced his heel. Prince Paris finally brought an end to the war.

This movie was very well done in my opinion, from the actors, to the story line to the artistry of the fighting. The fight scenes in themselves were astonishingly well done, and the hand to hand combat is an art onto itself. The spear fighting choreography was excellent especially in the fight between Achilles and Hector. The weaponary in this movie brings a new meaning to the old term "fireball".
