Most HelpfulI visit TripAdvisor before booking any hotel or planning to visit any city or attraction. It has great benefits but it also has some negatives. I suggest everyone visit TripAdvisor before any trip you plan! It's not a one-stop shop, but it does give you a lot of valuable information.

Most HelpfulTripAdvisor is a neat site that's well worth checking before you book a hotel anywhere. It has a good message board in its Forums area, and it's strong point is it's immense database of reviews.
The downside of TripAdvisor is the same as that of most "Web 2.0" sites: basically, most people writing the...
If you like to travel as much as I do, then you are likely the type who utilizes the internet for news and official information about your destination, activities, and the like. You probably also consult the internet before you make a selection for your place of lodging and one site to which many seasoned travelers are fully aware is Trip Advisor, a web service that specializes in reviews of different places of lodging.
Web Service Commentary:
Trip Advisor is, like its name suggests, a web service dedicated to the traveler who could use some advice on finding places to stay and things...
read full review »I first stumbled upon Trip Advisor about four years ago when I was researching hotels in New York City for a weekend getaway with my girlfriends. Now, being government employees carrying large amounts of student loan debt, we were looking for the best bargain we could get. Unfortunately, in the Big Apple, hotel bargains can sometimes result in bedbug bites. I found a great deal on a hotel, but I wanted to know up front what I'd be getting. And that was where Trip Advisor came in. I punched in the name of the hotel and located numerous reviews, written by individuals in a similar demographic--young...

i have been using tripadvisor to help plan my trips for the past 2-3 years & I don't know what I would do with out it! It is such a helpful resource especially since all the reviews come from other travelers and not from the hotel or tourism industry.
We planned our honeymoon to Costa Rica solely using this website for refrences on where to stay how to plan our itinerary and how to get around the country. The traveller's forum is an abundant wealth of resource! And they have almost anywhere you want to visit on their site! Oh and the photos people post really help us make an informed decision...

I have used Trip Advisor for a few years now and my experience has been that the collective reviews of places and hotels have been spot-on. I have traveled to Mexico quite a few times and have read other people's reviews on their experience with the hotel or resort. When they include pictures it gives you a better picture of what you can expect. Naturally most hotels and resorts only publish professional photos and hire professional writers to make their business stand out above the rest. But the reality is that you need to read through the fluff and see what other people are saying. ...
read full review »I never book a trip without going to Tripadvisor and reading reviews. That being said I do use it with a grain of salt. One woman gave the hotel a bad rating because they didn't get her luggage from the airline. Well, that's not a good enough reason to give a hotel one star to me. So use with caution.
I also really like the "traveler photos". They really show what the place looks like. My husband and I were considering doing a Sandals vacation until we went to TA and could not find ONE good thing about any of their resorts. The pictures taken by travelers showed the places to be...
read full review »My sister introduced me to Trip Advisor. When you're looking for a destination, you just never know if the reviews are real, so I love this site. You get real feedback from non-biased travelers. And I like that it even categorizes travelers like couples, family, honeymoon, business, luxury, etc. So this way, if I want to go to a place that is child friendly I can see what other parents thought about it. Also, based on the dates, you can see if there were any renovations going on that might hamper the experience, etc. Just a great site! I always check this first when I find a place...

Relied heavily on TripAdvisor to plan a trip to Rome and Florence in November 2006. Made reservations at TripAdvisor's #1 ranked hotels in both cities. They were exactly as the reviews suggested. Both hotels and met and/or exceeded our expectations. If you take the time to read through all the reviews, you can weed out the "sour grapes" reviews and focus on the real pros & cons. We would have never selected those two hotels had we relied only on guide books.
