Have had some issues with my cholesterol for about 9 months now and have tried different things, with fluctuating results. Saw my cardiologist in the last few months and he was concerned that my HDL was too low and suggested I see my family practice doctor. I saw the family practice doctor and after testing she put me on Trilipix 135 mg once daily.
My first shock was at the pharmacy, this medicine was going to cost us $125 for a 30 day supply, even with our insurance. Some deal with it being a third level new medication and no generic. Well, our family doctor provided samples.
Trilipix is a pretty blue and yellow capsule. I thought all was good now and this medicine was going to be the wonder drug to raise my HDL, lower my LDL, and lower my triglycerides. Not all things colorful bring happy results. After taking this medication for just a few days I began to have problems with my intestinal tract which resulted in added problems.
One night after suffering and being woke up at 3am by pain, I called the pharmacy to speak to the pharmacist about side effects and possible reactions with my other medications. The pharmacist confirmed my suspicions, this medication had a high rate of causing constipation. He suggested stool softeners, of which I was already on without success. End result was talk to my doctor. I was going to be seeing her in the next week, but I could not suffer that long. I quit taking the medication and my problems stopped.
This medication can maybe accomplish great things but at the cost of the side effects it was not worth it to me and I needed another alternative. I am now taking fish oil capsules daily to raise my HDL and lower triglycerides.
For what this medication cost and the side effects, I felt like it just would not be right to end up paying such an exuberant price for a medication that gave me such painful side effects.
I would like to end this review with the fact my mother takes Trilipix and has no ill side effects, she only worries about the price.
NOTE: the reviewer indicated that they received a sample of Trilipex fenofibric acid
