TRAVELERS HOME INSURANCE AS SOLD THROUGH GEICO-obtained through a salesman on the phone.
I had perfectly good insurance but wanted to get one for less. Travelers salesman through GEICO gave me a quote. So,I canceled my old insurace and then took Travelers. ONLY AFTER I CANCELED was I told that an appraiser was coming to look at the house but "only to check square footage." Appraiser came out and claimed roof was in bad shape (I had it looked at in February and a roofer told me it was OK. That I could repair it to make it look better but otherwise t was OK). Now they want roof replaced which I can NOT afford right now. Insurance is good but will not be renewed by them uless roof is repared. Even if I repaired the roof I would NOT renew with deceptive practices of Travelers. I should have been told all of this to begin wth, that the quote I was given may or may not be correct and that they may or may not insure my house. I should have been told "Do NOT cancel our present insurance UNTIL we have appraised your house and have the final quote." I was not told that and doubt if I could get old insurance back. I am not stuck having to put outround $5000 that I do NOT have to repair a roof that does NOT need to be repaired yet to possible damage the insurance would NOT pay for any way. Renewal is mute. If I had the roof repaired yesterday would cancel Travelers and get another company which has no deceptive methods. When I, some how, get roof repaired I will NOT renew Travelers any way. I probably will take only liabiity and cancel all other home insurance if I can not afford to repair roof. But, I had insurance, it was renewed, it was paid for for half the year...but I canceled it based, stupid me, on the belief that the quote I was given was the quote. Also, they claim the square footage is more than what even the County Assessor said it was so I have to pay MORE for that as well. Travelers is extremly deceptive in their conduct and I would not insure a dog house with them.
