The Case

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from Transformers besides good special effects.  I figured it would be best to go in with low expectations and prepare for a so-so movie.  I sure as heck wasn’t ready to be thoroughly entertained from beginning to end!

The Good

The one thing I thought would be decent – the special effects – weren’t decent at all, they were amazing.  I was like a little child sitting in the theater, gazing up in absolute awe at the movie magic displayed onscreen.  The one phrase running continuously through my head was ‘This is so cool!’

And, as a bonus, it was a good movie to boot!  The performances were fun and believable, the humor was interspersed regularly and effectively, and the soundtrack was complete, over-the-top fun.  Definitely worth picking up for your next road trip.  Overall, Transformers takes the cake when it comes to summer entertainment, and it was absolutely refreshing when compared to this summer’s flat trilogy closers – namely Shrek 3, Pirates 3, and Spiderman 3 – which, in my book, were all rather pitiful.

The Bad

I enjoyed most aspects of this movie, but I still think it’s important to go into it with as little expectation as you can manage.  The plot, though decent, only takes you so far, and after a certain point, there’s really nothing going on except mayhem, destruction, explosions, and cool FX transformations.  So, like I said, low expectations are key to your appreciation.

Also, I have to admit, I feel like this might not be a film that holds up to repeated viewings.  Yeah, the special effects are fantastic, but the comedy loses a little bit with each telling, and the plot, as you now know, can’t hold up the whole movie without a certain degree of tension.  And you won’t have much tension left after your third or fourth time around.  Still, I already bought it on DVD, so interpret that as you will…

The Verdict

Four stars!  If you haven’t seen this flick, then it’s high time you get Transformed!

Don't forget, the beginning of a story can be really boring. But once you get to chapter two it can become addictive.
